Question on 4-Stroke Thottle Linkage
 

Got another one for ya... I am mounting a Saito 100 to my Venture 60, looking at the plane from the front it is on the right side. Now, I put a guide tube to exit the firewall and it is a direct shot to the throttle, BUT (you knew it was coming), I have very little clearance on the right side and I don't have enough room front-to-back to mount a clevis to the flexible cable. when I stroke the throttle, it hits the firewall. I was thinking of using one of those "clamps" to screw down onto the flexible cable, but I used one of these on my US 60 (with a siato 100) and found it to not be very exact, there is too much play in the "clamp" and throttle response differs from time to time because of this..

Any ideas on a way to connect the throttle to the servo that is small, uses little space front to back and on the right side?

I don't know how much flexibility you need, but I recently used Piano wire instead of the flexible cable. It is rigid enough that you can put bends in it that will stay, but thin enough that there is quite a bit of flexibility. This has worked well for throttle setups since very little torque is needed. I did this when I didn't like the slop in a flexible cable setup.

Your best bet will probably be to put a "U" bend in the linkage. You'll have to move the hole you made in your firewall, and move the pushrod higher (or lower), but then you can run it through the firewall to the 'U', and back to the throttle arm.

The way I mounted my linkage is to put a arm on the side of your motor mount In front out side right side outer. Run linkage to lever and then back to throttle from arm. That way you have a straight line to arm and back to throttle arm. (Clear as mud rite)
PS its what they call a relay linkage!

I found the U bend a little too flexible and gave the throttle a "mushy" feel. On my Rascal 40, I used a threaded pushrod with a plastic clevis at the throttle. If the throttle arm hits the firewall,
just move the engine forward however amount is needed.

If the throttle arm itself clears the firewall you could possibly use an EZ Connector instead of a clevis. They will work with a cable or music wire and it won't require any additional clearance. Here's a pic of the Du Bro but Great Planes makes them also.

usually I can get by with a u bend in the final part control rod.

I second the arm. Just use a servo arm, screw it to the engine mount, connect the link from the serco to it and then the link to the throttle. The arm is mounted forward of the throttle.
