Huston we have a problem
 

my o.s. .46la with less then 30 min running has just stopped running. my instructor his grandfather and i agree the sleeve is in wrong. On top of that my friend stripped the head screws ,well 1 of the> out so we cant get the head off. Also the motor is leaking. So its goin back to tower. did i get a lump of crap or just a bad one out of many good ones? Im thinkin of selling the o.s. when i get the new one back and am probably goin to go with an evolution. But i heard good things about TT how much are they?

YOU MUST HAVE GOT A LEMON, IVE OWNED A COUPLE OF THESE AND HAD NO PROBLEMS. JUST DONT TRY TO GET A BUNCH OF RPM'S OUT OF THEM. THERE ONLY A BUSHED MOTOR AND CANT HANDLE HI R'S USE THE RECOMENDED PROPS AND YOU SHOULDNT HAVE ANY MORE TROUBLE

Well, I have to ask. How did the head screw get "stripped"? Because if you've taken the engine apart, then are you sure you got it back together properly? Many of those engines have a small 'notch' in the sleeve that fits over a tab on the cylinder. If you put the sleeve back in wrong, then tried to tighten the head down, you could certainly strip a screw AND have a head that "leaks".

Of course, I'm making a lot of assumptions based on what you told us, but....

I noticed the notch and it was at a 90 degree angle from were it should be. so my instructor attempted to take the head off and voi la stripped screw. By the way the engine was never flown and was only in break in stages.

Since the damage was made by your instructor GP probably will not warrent motor. Should have sent it back with out trying to fix it your selves with out knowing what to do. Sorry what happened the instructor should have known better!

If it's just the head that's stripped, you can cut off the bolt between the head and the crankcase using an emery wheel (cut-off disk) on a Dremel. After the head is removed, grip the stud with a plier and back it out.

When ever you put new bolts back in, make sure that you use allen cap head screws. They are much harder to strip.
