[:o] Hi Guys:
I have a problem that I need some help with. I have a SuperStar 60 trainer that had gotten damaged while in storage. 1.The covering has a few tears in a couple of places.
2.The Vertical fin is partically broken.
3. the Elevator needs to be reattached.
But I don't see that the problems are beyond the novice level of unstanding, just need some help with the right things to do .

Get you some clear packing tape for the damaged covering, if it isn't tooo bad. You might try removing some of the covering around the break on the vertical, piece it back together making sure that it is straight and put some thin CA all along the break and then put on some new covering. Put some new hinges to the elevator and you should be good to go.

Keep in mind that it is a trainer and if flown like a trainer will not have the forces applied to it that an aerobatic plane would be subjected to so the quick fix to the vertical should hold up pretty well.

Might want to splint the break in the fin.. depends on where the break is. Generally a piece of 1/4 X 1/8 strip balsa about 1 to 2 inches for splinting 1/4 inch square stock. (the splint goes inside the covering, along the part not touched by the covering)

If you are using a flying field, try asking the members around for some help in repairing your plane. LHS (local hobby shop) is another source for help in repairing. I know that I have spent a lot of time with beginners at our field helping them repair. I usually invite them to my house and we do the repairs together in my shop. now some of them are better builders/repairmen than I am.

When fixing things, you must just do it. Look at it this way, it is already broken. You can fix it. If you make it worse, then you just build a new elevator or whatever. Good luck. I would also make sure to check other areas, like the firewall, and servo mounts. Make sure those pushrods are in securely. I would use monokote or something similar to patch, but only bc it looks better. Good luck!
