Need Advice for 2nd Plane. Small size preferred
 

I have the NexStar now and have become quite good with it....

I am ready to start thinking about my second plane. I want something SMALL or SMALLER than my, what seems to be huge, Nexstar.

Something that flies faster (my nexstar seems sluggish, even with my airbrakes removed), and is capable of more aerobatics.

I don't care if it is a Kit or ARF... just something small and fast....

It kinda depends on what your looking for. Aerobatic? Fun-fly? all out speed demon? I have a Tower Kaos (kit, not arf) with a 46 fx and it is fast, 86mph w/10x7 prop. It is also a very stable and aerobatic airplane, but not for 3D. I does IMAC manuvers with the best of them. I also have a House Of Balsa P51 with a 25fx. It is more than a handful, if you blink, it is out of sight. The Dazzler or Uproar are good all-around performers and are too big, 48" ws. The choices are endless, It just depends on the type of flying you want to do.

My second plane was a Great Planes Super Sportster. I think it was a great second plan for me. I got the idea from members at my club. I had at least 3 guys rrecommend this plane.

Look into it and make sure its the right plane for you. Hope I helped.

small and fast (not the fastest... but its QUICK!) try a Sig Kobra. Its a fairly simple kit designed for the style Pattern flying done in the 1970's... quick flying actrross the field and doing one "show stopper" maneuver in the center, converting all the speed you had built up into the vertical performance needed.

Very fast with a light weight .40 (plenty fast with a strong .25 really.) and its a stable design. No bad characteristics to get you in over your head.

A little larger, same design really is the Sig Kougar. Meant to be flown with a .40.. the airframe canhandle a .60 for speed runs.

Remember... as you add power you normally add weight. There is a point where the added weight harms performance so much that the plane actually becomes slower.

try the sig something extra. it can be aerobatic but also fairly easy to fly

I have a Great Planes RV-4. It's a great performer and with flaps is a piece of cake to land. It is by far my favorite of the 5 flyable planes I have. It's small to mid-sized and flies nicely on a .46.

Sig 4-star, as it is considered the classic '2nd plane'
I will also reccomend teh Sig SOmtrhigtn Extra, as the wing is actaully in two parts, so transoprtation is quite easy. Set on low rates, should be no problem for you..

Normally... would say go with the 4*40 too... however he wanted SMALLER and FASTER. the 4*40 is as large as his trainer... and flies about the same speed. since it fails both ot the requirements he stated...:eek:

Maybe go with a Lanier Skrike .10

Pretty cheap priced plane not hard to build.
It is small enough to toss into your car and no field assembly required. Just fuel it up and go. It is a hand launch plane so may want to get an experienced flier to do first flight and trim out maybe. And it is fast to someone going from a trainer to this. Speeds can go into the 100's depending on on what engine you use and how fast you want to go.

My second plane was the Ultra Stick 40. Very aerobatic, not too big and fun to fly. Quad flaps keep it entertaining. My third plane was the ModelTech Magic Extra which is smoother and more aerobatic, yet still very easy to fly.
