question about Kyosho Calmato ?!?!?!?
I have found only acouple of posts, adn no reviews on this plane... I like the bolt on wings,I like the symetrical wing, I like the alum. landing gear-- it seems to maybe top the avistar. Any reviews, Input...? etc

RE: question about Kyosho Calmato ?!?!?!?
I have just buddy boxed one with my beginner friend (his plane) and it was solid... and plus he says that it took him just a few hours to put together (he said 30 minutes but I think that is grossly understated). All around a solid and stable plane.

RE: question about Kyosho Calmato ?!?!?!?
I just ordered one today.
I also like the same features and quick build. I tried searching for info around the net, but it's pretty new still. The most info I found was on RCU. I just can't help thinking about tomato juice for some reason.:) |
RE: question about Kyosho Calmato ?!?!?!?
From what I seen at my local field they are solid fliers except for the problem that seems to be plaguing a lot of these kind of planes, The wing folding in flight. I've it twice now with that plane. My suggestion is to re-enforce the center joint with fiberglass and remove a little bit of dihedral while your at it. It might sound a little intimidating but it's actually pretty simple.

With no dihedral it looks like this. Used all the provided hardware except substituted larger wheels and swapped out the wing hold-down hardware for nylon 1/4-20s. K&B .61 for power. Waiting for the weather to compare with Avistar - but them's big shoes to fill. :D

RE: question about Kyosho Calmato ?!?!?!?
PLease :Dkeep me posted on how this goes for you,,,, I'm really interested in your input

RE: question about Kyosho Calmato ?!?!?!?
Looking forward to hearing of your experience...do you think a .61 engine is too much for this plane?

RE: question about Kyosho Calmato ?!?!?!?
Hey what was your final verdict on this plane ?
|
RE: question about Kyosho Calmato ?!?!?!?
forestroke
your beginner is not far from the truth. All I had to do was to put the landing gear, horizontal tail, and all of the linkage rods in and cut two holes and drill one and I was done. Everything was done at the factory. Of course, I had to install the motor and electrioncs. I took it to the field today but didn't get to fly it because I didn't glue the wing together(Dumb). The hands at the field was asking me what I had to do to get it set-up and they told me that the avistar was nothing like the kyosho as far as being prebuilt. Will let you know how it flys next week |
RE: question about Kyosho Calmato ?!?!?!?
thanks for the info...what kind of covering ison the plane ? the adhesive backed stuff or monokote (like on the avistar). Also- what engine are you using ?

RE: question about Kyosho Calmato ?!?!?!?
It's monokote and it look like it painted on with no bubbles. now will all the kits be that way, you know how that goes. I useing a OS 46fx on my.

RE: question about Kyosho Calmato ?!?!?!?
SO I guess you would reccomend it Highly :D right ?
It looks like an awesome plane. Where did you order yours from ? And did you need anything other than motor , radio and what came in the Kit ? |
RE: question about Kyosho Calmato ?!?!?!?
You can get it here http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXEZX3&P=0 Even though I hadn't flew it yet it a nicely built kit and yes all you need is the motor, radio and what comes with a radio. Don't forget to glue the wings together. I did buy heavy-duty pushrod connectors to use on it.

RE: question about Kyosho Calmato ?!?!?!?
A friend has one. I was going to get one myself after seeing what this thing could do but I could not hold off for shipping. I ended up going for an Avistar in stock. But I still am amazed at the Kyoshu Trainer. ITs an awsome bird.

Is that Clamato or Calmato? Can't help it! This plain makes me think of Clamato!

RE: question about Kyosho Calmato ?!?!?!?
ORIGINAL: tbird911 Looking forward to hearing of your experience...do you think a .61 engine is too much for this plane? Performance with the K&B .61 and 11x7-1/2 was hot! I replaced the wheels with larger ones for more ground clearance and will try a 12x5 next. A good ball bearing .46 should be a good match for this plane, but I wanted more vertical and the .61 has been zip-locked since trying to eat my finger two years ago. Removing the dihedral had no ill effects, and though the plane seemed stable, I really didn't do much with it. Tomorrow and Saturday look like good weather so I'm looking forward to more flights. |
RE: question about Kyosho Calmato ?!?!?!?
Thanks keep 'em coming.. I'm trying to decide between this and one other plane.. I just havent heard to much definitive info on this one. Also can you confirm how long it took to assemble and if you did any other re-inforcing. Also can you confirm it is actually monocote/ultracote covering and not the cheaper adhesive backed paper . . .
thanks, Tbird |
