Hand launch DON'T DO!

Just read a post about a power switch and it reminded me of this story. My brother had a Ugly Stick .40 size, back when you could buy the kit quite a few years ago. He was flying and the muffler broke. After that happened he couldn't get it to idle right so for some reason that escapes me now we decided to hand launch it. I picked it up and gave it the heave ho. It flew about 50 feet and augered in! I had turned the power switch off somewhere between picking it up and throwing it! Something to think about if you like hand launching is putting that power switch somewhere hard to reach!

Turn the swicth so that the off position is facing the tail and your problem is solved

or give it a two handed launch, one hand near the tail, the other on the wing LE.

Isn't that backwards?

Oh no...

A few years ago this topic came up and it turned into a HUGE thread with everyone telling THEIR version of how to mount a switch so it can't be turned off during a hand launch.

MY method? KNOW WHERE THE SWITCH IS, AND KEEP YER STUPID FINGERS AWAY FROM IT! :D

its best to punt the switch so ON is when you push toward the tail. this way if you gothrough some tall grass on takeoff or landing, or have a close brush with a tree (done it) your switch wont turn off. having on at the nose end is bad.
I use two standard futaba switches that are connected in parallel. they are mounted on top of my fuse in front of the canopy. on top, outa the way, and they are redundant. I have heard too many stories of failed swiches.
