Real Flight

Ok, so i wana get this simulator, but, can i get it for cheaper if i buy it without the controller, can u use any other radio? i know they have something on the back where u can plug something in... do they sell that cable to hook it up to the pc?

RE: Real Flight

You want cheaper and useful?

Look on E-bay for the deals on an RC sim with cable for your brand radio. About $15. The Sim is going to be FMS on a CD (free for download... you are buying the patch cable.)

FMS is decent. Not quite as good graphics as Real Flight G2... but the flight simulation is good.

You can use the FMS patch cable... and your TX, to fly from Tower View in Micosoft Flight sim.:D Now you have... a GREAT simulator and the use of your TX at under $80. (and virtually unlimited aircraft to choose from. so many places with aircraft profiles to DL... you will NEVER run out.)

I like G2... nothing against it except its overpriced.

RE: Real Flight

You might find it used on eBay or an RCU auction, but probably still won't be cheap. The full version goes for around $200, and I've never seen it go at an auction for much less.

The Real Flight Lite version is quite a bit less, still pretty good.

The problem with FMS and many other less expensive Sims is they don't allow you to plug in wind speed, direction, gusts and thermals, all of which occur in the real world. That being said, if you buy a transmitter (probably $20 on an auction), and FMS with an interface (transmittere to PC), at least you can learn the major control responses, and won't shell out more than about $45 total.

FMS on E-bay

Okay, so I went on E-bay to get one of these FMS/cable packages, but I don't see where it plugs into my TX. I just bought the Futaba 7CAP yesterday. Looking at the pictures they (e-bay sellers) have of the cables, I don't see where it plugs in. Their plug is round and the only thing I can see on the back of my TX is squared off. Is it supposed to plug into the same place as the buddy box? I'd think they'd make the 7C interface the same as that on the rest of the Futabas. Is the 7C's interface different than all the rest of the Futabas? Do they all have a circular interface and they changed it to squared-off for the 7C?

Man, the pictures came out blurry - it was hard to focus on that plug-in. Hopefully you can tell what I'm talking about though. If you can't, maybe I can get some better pics.

The plug on the back of my TX (sorry it's so blurry):

You don't need Kazaa. FMS is available for free download at http://n.ethz.ch/student/mmoeller/fms/index_e.html.

I tried the same thing you are doing and gave up. I bought Real Flight. I did try the free stuff, but it is not as good or as realistic. Just buy the cheaper version - I can't remember what it is called. It is a good idea -- usefull to get your thumbs and brain hooked together. Great for learning new tricks before you try them with a real plane. Rolling circles for example

I have RealFlight and my Futaba radio has the round plug on the back I believe the square plug is a newer design. To work with the square plug you need to get an adapter. Your LHS may be able to order one for you or you can call Tower and they should be able to set you up. If you decide to eventually go with G2 you will still need the adapter either way.

You have to take out the period. The message board software included the period I put at the end of the sentence in the URL. Try this:

Did you test the link out by clicking on it? My browser is timing out now. May be a problem on my end.

Thanks,

Hi
You have the Futaba micro plug. The cable is available for this. I just purchased a cable, Futaba 6 pin to usb. I payed 51.00 for the cable at ebay I saved maybe $4.00. Realflight is way over priced and you can touch it on ebay for under $150.00 if not more.
FHS is fine Pre flight is also free.
My 5 cents.

I finally got to load. I tried it a litte with they keyboard. looks like cool program, specially for free.

I have a Futaba 6exa, is it possible to buy a cord to use with this controller?

I think real flight is worth it. FMS has really poor graphics. I bought a used lite version of g2 for 85.00. I have tried fms and there is no comparison.

It probably is worth it, but my wife is already annoyed with the money I spend on this hobby. Free is always good when it comes to keeping peace in the house.:D

That would be a criminal act. Surely, you are aware of that.
