Simple Hinge Questions

This is my second plane I've built that I'm helping my brother with, and my TH Trainer came with the hinges already installed, but this one doesn't (Alpha Trainer). Should I apply thin CA all along the aileron or just ontop and below the hinges?

What type hinges are they?

If they are Mylar (thin plastic) then roughen then up with glass paper. Put them in and glue in top of and underneath the hinges only.

If they are slightly thicker (often with holes in the bit that goes into the wood, with metal pins in the hinge) then I personally prefer to use a slow setting epoxy.

If they are the fuzzy CA type... read up on the installing CA hinges threads. (bunches of them)

USE THIN CA! (medium is WAY out. Thick is for the thick headed.)

Get the hinges in place. Flex the aileron to open the hinge line (keep the hinge gap small... just making room for the tip of the glue bottle by deflecting the aileron)

Put one drop per hinge, at each hinge. Now go back and put one more drop on each hinge.

Deflect the aileron the opposite direction and put 2 drops CA per hinge.

Deflect to the first direction... 2 drops per hinge

Now the other way again... 2 more drops per....

Now you can sit and flex the aileron back and forth a few times.

Its done.

Depends on the type of hinge. If it is a C/A hinge, I would add the C/A where mentioned, but pin both sides of the hinge as well
