I have an O.S. .40 LA
What would be the best trainer for this type of engine.

Thanks in advance

Neil

I'll help you out because I was asking the same type of questions a while ago. I like to build so I'm only going to list kits. Here's a list of good planes:

Sig LT40 (as long as you are at a lower altitude) .40 might not be enough at higher altitude
Sig LT25
Great Planes PT40
Tower Hobbies Trainer 40
Goldberg Eagle II

This is a list of popular .40 trainers. I'm sure other people will add some planes to this list.

Most average trainers use the .40 LA. I have a Hobbico Superstar my self. But I upgraded and put a .46 FX in it. Flies great IMO.

for a kit, I'd go with the Eagle 2, but if I went around again, I'd go ARF..Rog

Great planes PT-40 ARF. Very light and forgiving with this engine. I was able to do loops rolls stallturns immelmans whatever when i had that plane. Not to mention the reliabilty of the .40LA. I never had a problem. 1 glowplug lasted me for an entire summer.

Not to forget that trainers should also be cheap and durable, accidents are a part of the game, so consider the Airmadillo from Airplane Factory. The 40 is light on the grunt end but will do a good job with this plane, and it will survive your mistakes.

One thing about an LA-40 is that it's a very light .40 sized engine. Not that light weight is a bad thing at all, but you might run into some balance problems, especially with an ARF. And I have to second ifixairplanes opinion of the LA, mine flip starts very reliably and runs like a clock. It is a little down on power compared to some of the other 40's, but I've flown out of a couple stalls with it so far.

RE: Trainer

Since i'm a newbie does the engine and controller come with these planes and what about cost?.
Thanks

RE: Trainer

No, The engine and controller (radio) does not come with it. I already have a O.S. .40 LA engine. And I have a radio. All I need is a good ARF Trainer airplane.
