Avistar Aileron Throw
How much throw should they have when not attached to anything. I think the book says something like 7/8 of an inche. But when I installed them and working them by hand, I barley have that much max deflection. I installed them just like the book said with virtually no gap. Or is it just so small compared to my Funtana that has about 3-4 inches of throw by hand? I need to pick up a throw meter just to get exact numbers to be more specific. But it just seems so small.

RE: Avistar Aileron Throw
I hope that you didn't install them too tight. While the gap is important, it is even MORE important that the hinges have enough room to flex.
When you installed them, did you flex the aileron up (or down) while you applied the CA, or did you hold it level and press it against the wing to remove any gap? |
RE: Avistar Aileron Throw
The expert is correct.
You need to disconnect the servo rods from the torque rods and flex ailerons up and down till they loosen up. Deflection of 1/2" up is more than enough to start with on the Avistar. You might also check that the slot where the torque rods exit is long enough to allow max travel. |
RE: Avistar Aileron Throw
They flex fine. No binding. When I glued them I held them flexxed down, glued one side, flexed it the other way and turned it over and glued the other. 15 minutes later, I was tugging on them, and it held just fine, and was able to move them freely. It just seems not to have a lot of throw in them. About 3/4 to 1 inche up and 1 to 1.5 inches down equally on both sides.

RE: Avistar Aileron Throw
Ok, I misunderstood. That is PLENTY of throw for that plane.

Thanks for letting me know.

RE: Avistar Aileron Throw
Well: If you was being trained at our club than the trows would
be set a 3/8 of a inch. Reguardless of what the book says. This setting is great for beginers on all trainers that i have flew and thats alot of trainers. LOL |
RE: Avistar Aileron Throw
I actually have my Avistar's alieron throws reduced from what the book says. In I beleive the third hole out on the servo horn they were right at spec, I moved the linkage in one hole, and have been flying like that since then. I'll move them out here soon, but for now it's plenty of authority.
