I flew today
I went to the local flying club airfield this morning and looked at more planes than i can remember there names including a couple of helicopters.I met some really nice people out there and enjoyed every minute of it,AND i was asked if i wanted to fly and you know what plane ?it was the hobby 60 and a really nice plane.I was hooked up with the buddy box and after it was in the air i took control, now that was a real good feeling, the instructor took over i think 3 times, maybe 4 but that was all and the reason was he felt i was too close to the ground in case he had to take over in case i messed up,i did mess up a couple times and was glad he was there but afterwards he told me i did a great job for my first time which made me feel good. When i took over the controls, there were three other planes in the air but it didn't take long until i was the only one out there, lol. Finally this guy showed up with a new Nexstar and i just had to watch it fly and he gave it to an experienced flier and he took it around a couple times but decided it needed a few adjustments so he brought it in and after the adjustments ther were in the process of connecting a buddy box but it was time for me to go.I had the chance to fly one i'm interested in and the nexstar ?,it's a real nice plane and i wasn't disappointed but i think i want either the hobby 40 but leaning towards the 60 but it will take a few more trips to the field to really make up my mind. There a great bunch of people and i have a chance to fly several different ones so who knows what i'll wind up with.It was a good day while it lasted but i have "other dutys" my wife says.:D
You can fly as long as you want but don't forget where you live. |
RE: I flew today
nexstar is a great plane! i have had 3 new students all doing taleoff's and landings between there 3rd-5th flight. I had one SOLO on his 4th flight!!!! it is a great plane, just don't put the speed brake on and disconnect the AFS, it is junk.

my 40-sized 61" wingspan plane wont fit in my Corrolla cuz its not wide enough, I have to put it longitudinally and I am getting many dents. |

There a great bunch of people and i have a chance to fly several different ones so who knows what i'll wind up with. With any luck you just might get to fly a really nice plane, and then the guy will say to you "Do you like it? $100 and it's yours!" Clubs are a great place to buy a trainer. - Joe |

RE: I flew today
For some strange reason i think i was hooked a couple weeks ago when i was sitting early one morning and the wife came down the hallway, looked at me and said "what's the matter" thinking something was wrong with me,i said "i think i want to fly",you should of seen the look on her face, priceless, but i said "model airplanes" then the blood came back to her face lol.
Maybe i was just a fishin the water looking for a hook to bite ?. |
RE: I flew today
I have introduced many friends and workmates to RC flying and they all have wives who hate me for doing it. I have to watch where I go at company picnics.

RE: I flew today
5_Spot,
Well, maybe at least you understand why so many of us tell new guys, go to a club, look for an instructor. It IS mostly to make their learning experience easier, but it's also about sharing all this with other people, ;) I'd hold out until you see that guys plane, I'm guessing that it won't be real pretty, but you might be able to save yourself a couple hundred bucks. I'd bring a couple hundred to the field with me when you go to see it. :D Dennis- |
RE: I flew today
Used trainers are great, not only do you save a couple hundred, you can still have a nice trainer, but get an 8 channel radio instead of a 4 channel with the money you saved. Trainers can be thought of as cheap and disposable, but a nice radio will work with all your planes in the future. - Joe

RE: I flew today
Man I was the lucky one. When I met my instructor, and after the first day of flight...he had me follow him to his storage building, and he gave me a NIB Global Right Flyer 60 :-). GAVE it to me. I was stunned but very pleased too. Turns out, he is an older gent, and due to his wifes failing health, he doesn't get out as often. I feel like he passed it to me so I could get the GOOD out of it.
You will meet nice people in this hobby...many willing to help...because thats what they enjoy. Good luck with whatever you decide to fly! |
RE: I flew today
It's something about airplanes.Without a doubt, you meet the best people at a flying field.;)
