RE: To pinch or to Thumb....
Wel, I have to say that I do like to just thumb it........but I just got the G2, and I am really practicing using the pinching method to fly my planes. I have always looked at the people at the field, and have wanted to do that.....but I really need to get a holder for my TX so I can do that......
BTW, I'm probably going to do that (switch to the pinch method fully) when i get my Rappy 30......I also think that you have alot more control in the pinch method....I fly with just the thumbs because that is how I learned.......wished it was the other way 'round... HAPPY FLYING.... |
RE: To pinch or to Thumb....
BTW I perfected the 6 point landing yesterday, and would have started on the 5 pointer if the Avistar didn't need some Epoxy therapy.... Luis |
RE: To pinch or to Thumb....
i dont know if this is what you mean when u say pinching it, but i put my thumb on top, and put my pointer finger on the front side of the stick.

RE: To pinch or to Thumb....
6 point landing is wingtip, spinner, wingtip, then landing gear.

RE: To pinch or to Thumb....
In my short flying life, I started thumbing... But after the first couple
flights I changed to pinching with two fingers at bottom of trans and one just above the L.G/Flap switches. I seem to like that feel, And I do have better control (at least of the sticks).. But I must admit my left hand thumbs alot... Guess it's just what feels good to you!! Thumbing was good for me, except in a panic mode of dis-orientation or 6 point landings.. I tend to over correct then... But my wings stayed together... But my nose did get whacked and dis-lodged... So now I'm not really sure what I do... |
RE: To pinch or to Thumb....
pinch,,,,yup...pinch...solid control... your avistar told the tale..LOL..pinching helps over control...good luck..Rod

RE: To pinch or to Thumb....
My trainer is by no means an old timer....but he STRONGLY reccommended pinching. Hubby started learning with his thumbs and still flys that way, and he says nothing to him (old habits are hard to break). But I guess since I had no habits, I started the way I was instructed, I hold my transmitter with my palms and three fingers and fly with the other two. No neck strap or transmitter tray.

RE: To pinch or to Thumb....
Well, the funny thing is............with some people.......if they pinch, they seem to supposidly have more control (and most do)....and with the thumbing, they dont' have as much as if they were pinching.....Well, I am the opposite.....If I try to pinch on the sim, then I tend to over-correct than if I were to thumb the flying.....I dont' know how that is but I really want to learn to fly with the pinching method....

RE: To pinch or to Thumb....
Hey, are the old timers National Champions? Look at Hyde or Szczur, both thumbers... I seem to remember Schulman being a thumbs guy too...

RE: To pinch or to Thumb....
I suggest trying a neck strap to help hold the TX and you’ll find you can do a little of both depending on the situation. I think the neck strap helps the mode I flyers the most but Mode II flyers can also gain an advantage too.

Hey forget the neckstrap, just get the whole platform for the whole thing........that's is what I'm going to do when I get my Rappy......I have tried the strap, but you dont' really have that much support in the back, and the TX leans to the back..........and that's not that great... Happy Flying!! |

Some of both.
