I started my plane

Just to hear it run then i looked at the lawn i just mowed saturday and decided to take it for a spin :) but the good thing is i didn't put the wing on :) but it was nice to see it run across the lawn and i walked it around,it sure felt good and starting ?three flips with the chicken stick and it just purred like a kitten. :D

*it sure would be nice to fly it but i'm in no hurry*

How come your in no hurry? I Just got in from the garage from starting my engine. It's a 7 year old Webra that was my dads old engine, But when we clamped it in the vice she ran like a new! :D!

I still have to rig up the servos, and put the Supercoat on it before she is flying.

One the last peice is covered, I am taking it outside to taxi around a bit. I am getting lessons, but don't think I will be able to wait that long.

I'm in a hurry but the instructor wont be here this weekend, something about going to a fly-in so i can wait (i think),if i put the wing on i'll be tempted to take her up which might turn into a disaster.

:DYou should see if you can bum a ride to the fly-in, or go along on your own. At least you will be NEAR some models!:D

Should put a bigger prop on it and use it to trim along sidewalk....

It's also great for keeping those pesky squirls off the lawn :)[X(]

(man, my wife will kill me if she saw that post)

I'm glad I'm not the only one taxiing my wingless plane around the driveway/yard. My wife thought I was crazy. No chance of me taking mine up -- Pine trees everywhere. Area out back is big enough to hand launch an electric 3d flyer, but that's about it.

so I'm building an electric 3d flyer :-)

I ran out of gas on my front lawn as i was approching the front porch but i have a new one gallon can,the lawn isn't that smooth and when i run over a clump of grass,or maybe weeds, it bounces a little and the prop hits the grass,i need bigger wheels or a smaller prop.I might take some pic's tonight if i get it out on the lawn again.:D

Practice having the plane come towards you and practice steering.

My neighbors think I'm weed whacking in the garage.
The lawns not big enough to taxi on so I'm going to the field this weekend
Keep us posted to when you get it in the air.

One thing, if you're gonna taxi it around your lawn, get an air filter for the carb. I sucked a rock or something into my old trainer years ago taxing it around a parking lot. Resulted in a month's delay while I waited for Tower to send me a new piston/sleeve for the engine.... And don't use your taxi prop to fly without balancing it first. If you can.

Glad to hear yours is at least moving somewhere. Don't cut the grass too short, might cause problems later in the summer with your yard. Mine is sitting on top of a refer in the garage with the wings on top of a cabinet. Still looking for a good engine for it and waiting to get the $$$ together to get it along with everything else.

Guess you can call me "Motionless in Columbia Station".:D

I was looking at my plane pretty good but when i got to the prop i noticed some grass on the leading edge and i decided it had to be grass clippings so,no more running on the lawn.I was having so much fun doing it,happy and content for now but...[:o]

The grass clippings won't hurt the prop.
Good advice to fit an air filter... and you might consider a big piece of foam rubber,
just the right size to stuff in the wing saddle opening, just to keep things tidy inside.
Other than that... have a blast, as long as you're not chewing through rocks and dirt :)

RE: I started my plane

I cleaned the prop last night then just for the heck of it,i cleaned the fuselodge, today after work i drove to the clubs field and the gate was unlocked but nobody was there so i left,i thought about getting my plane and going back but then it dawned on me,i havn't joined the club yet so i don't think i have permission and i don't have my AMA card yet,two strikes against me so i started to think,EURIKA,there is a brand new subdivision not too far from me and not one single soul is there, nobody drives on the new cement so now i'm thinking i might go there tonight, maybe just wait til this weekend.
Thanks for the airfilter ideas.
I bought a gallon of fuel in a can but i want to put it into a plastic gallon container, will the fuel melt the plastic or does it have to be a special plastic ?.
Thanks

typical warning applies... first flight without an instructor has maybe a 25% chance of landing in one piece and not rekitting the plane... wait for the club...

I greatly appreciate the warning but i wasn't going to put the wing on,just let it run around on the cement instead of my lawn.

I've heard pros and cons about air filters
Why don't you see more planes with them?
Are you talking about using an air filter just when doing a lot of taxis time?
5_spot When do we get to see the plane? - Good Luck

I think they were talking about airfilters for running on a fres cut lawn to keep the clippings out of the carb, and engine.I been so busy asking this and that so i just took it outside and snapped a couple of pics, not so good but at least it's a pic for now.

RE: I started my plane

Are you going to bolt the wings on or rubber band
I put the bolts in mine as I thought it was cleaner and easier.

5_spot 03-31-2004 08:33 PM

RE: I started my plane

There are pro's and cons about the rubberband or the bolts but so far i have decided to go with the bolts,i got some plastic washers to put on the bolts, seems the covering wants to turn with the bolts so that should fix that problem, sorry for not putting the wing on for the pic's but it was getting dark fast and i'll do better with the next ones.

I guess we won't see this one towed behind your pickup then.[&o]

Looks like a nice plane though.:D

Have fun with it.:D

Larry

Edit::: I wanna see pics of it in flight!

I had to put the wing on just to see how it looks
I know what you mean by twisting the covering
A heat gun will straighten it out.
I used DrScholls corn cushions over the bolt holes
They stick to the covering so I won't lose them
They are just the right size
May sound funny but it works!

RE: I started my plane

If it wasn't so dark,i think i would take it outside and put it behind my truck with a log chain just for you,:D ,i'll have the camera with me when it flies, either by me or somebody.
Thanks
