Tape or epoxy?
 

The instructions on my Hangar 9 Arrow say that I can tape the wing halves together or optionally use epoxy to permanently join them. Which would you suggest? I taped them together but it just doesn't seem that strong to me.

If it were my plane, I'd epoxy the wing centers and then tape over the joint to hide the joint itself. I doubt very seriously that tape of any kind will keep that wing together once it starts rolling let alone be subjected to any kind of stress.

For what it is worth, use at least 30 minute epoxy and some good strong tape to hold the halves together as firmly as possible until the epoxy sets up.

Crashmaster hit it- use the tape to cover the joint, but I would never anchor ANYTHING with tape- Is that plane electric or glow?

I just used 5 minute epoxy on my 15 class plane (has a 30 fourstroke)... am i headed for a field plowing?

I would epoxy the wing halves together. You don't have to use much but the extra insurance is good.

If the Manufacturer recommends using tape, then the wing was designed to stay together without epoxy. the tape is simply ti hide the seam, and keep the two halves from pulling away from each other. Do whichever you're more comfortable with.

You might want to consider ease of transporting the wing in halfs or whole.

I also recently bought a h-9 arrow rtf trainer. I used some thick CA to join the wings and then used the tape to go over the seam as well. Now I have been reading some forums that say the wings can rip off in flight because I used CA.[:'(] Is this true and is there a possibility that I can fix this?

I am not an expert on this so take my advise with a grain of salt.
I have an Alpha 60 and bolt my wing instead of rubber bands.
I am fortunate that I work with a lot of experienced flyers.
All have said I should glue the wing
I did!

Well Im no expert either and I would recommend you take the advice of Minnflyer and Geistware those guys seem to know their ***** I know they both said something different but maybe thier both right I have the Hanger nine extra easy Trainer It also has split wings that uses tape to join the wing I have had this plane doing things I know should not be done Sticks in, tight rolls and loops Hard loops ! and I have crashed plenty times and those wings never have came apart useing just 2" packing tape a friend of mine says you might want to take the dihedral out of the wing sometime so thats why I did'nt glue Thats just my two cents !

The Hanger 9 trainers come with a rod and pin that insert inside the wing to keep it from twisting.
I have always just used the tape on my own hanger 9 planes, but instead of the thin strip that comes with the kit I use 2" packing tape.

I have crashed, and seen others crash their H9 planes and never seen the wing separate with the tape.

One thing to consider is that if you ever outgrow your plane and want to sell it, shipping would be nearly impossible with the wing glued together.

I use the tape and feel confident that it is enough or the MFG wouldnt recomend it.

If this plane does indeed use an aluminum tube to hold the wing halves together, then I will restate my previous post. Epoxy is not needed.

You may certainly use it if you choose to, but it's not necessary.
