Wings,I have the exact problem with my aerobird after a crash. The black rod keeps sliding about an inch and the plane always nose dives after launches. So I am gonna check the rod where it is supposed to fit in.

By "Boom" are you guys talkin about the tail (black) rod?

Yes, the boom is the black rod that holds the tail on. Go back up and read my post. I specifically tell you how to check and fix the tail boom.

Let me add to aeajr post on the boom. (the black piece)

If you look at the bottom of your fuseloge towards the back you can see where there is a mounting bracket for the boom. Looking inside the fuselodge make sure the boom is "snapped" into this bracket. Once you are sure its "snapped" into place drill a small hole in the fuseloge on each side of the boom. Use some wire to thread through there and tighten it down. I actually ran a piece of wire through each hole through the bottom. Then twisted them together, this makes it easier to thread through the holes.


By the way, I flew the heck out of my aerobird, still fly it. Let me tell you, the orange screws on the tail don't do much. I havn't noticed any affect at all when adjusting those.

I did a simlar reinforcement going across the top of the boom and putting in a nylon tie wrap. Be VERY careful with the drill. You can cut the antenna or the control lines.

If you are faint of heart wih the drill, try just using clear packing tape at the joint between the body and the boom. Holds pretty well. If you pack epoxy in there that is even better.


As for the orange screws. I have had to put a small paper shim under the front of the tail to get it to go up. The orange screws don't always raise the front of the tail the way you expect them to.

It works guys..it flew now after the "snapping" I did inside. Will try the epoxy.thanks.

I have another question I love to take off and land in a basket ball court ina school yard...But during take offs the bird always goes either left or right. The rudderons dont do much....How do I make it roll straight? have any of you had this problem.

Frankly, I fly from a grass field and have never done a ROG with this plane.

You might try bending the tail wheel a little bit to straighten it out and see if that helps. Or, take the tail wheel off. the Skid may actually help to hold it straight though it might make the take-off longer.

I tried bending the tail wheel too...has very little effect in high speed ROG. Like you said I ll try removing it now. Tks

I've have had little luck getting the durn thing the roll straight on take off. I have tried 100 times. I can take off in a parking lot, but if I am using a narrow road or something, it ALWAYS rolls off to the side. I have adjusted the wheels untill I am blue in the face and it may roll straight 1 out of 10 times. I have brainstormed about how to device the rear wheel on a pivot and hook it to one of the servos, but it might be difficult since the channels are mixed.

Same experience as mine! I started flying with the Outlaw (firebird) and that lil plane would roll straight during take off but this aerobird cant do it...Its a major set back fo r the model I'd say. What s frustrating is it goes right or left inconsistently...so I still cant figure out WHY.

A glow plane can have 3 channels, just like an electric. The 4th channel is for ailerons in most applications.

Some three channel planes have elevator/aileron. The Sky Scooter is an example. Of course all flying wings are elevator/aileron mixed planes (elevons)

Fuel type isn't really relevent other than the tendancy of the fuel planes to have 4 channels and the electric parkflyers to have three.

Excuse my ignorance, but does ROG stand for "right off ground" . I have never seen that before.
