motor is angled?
 
I bought a electra jet (Eflight) and the motor is about 2 or so degrees off. If you are looking down at the plane and it is heading away from you it will make the plane go to the right. It is a pusher prop and the instructions dident say anything about it. I havent flown it yet and am new to the hobby. Does anybody know why the motor would be crooked?? Should i line it up??

my bet is that's the thrust angle needed for that plane to fly correctly. Typically it's there to help offset the motor torque

Yep, 2 or 3 degrees is pretty mild for a thrust line offset. There are some models that need as much as 10 degrees.

How are you doing with your Electrajet? I am about to build one. This will be my second plane. My first was an Aerobird.

You said you are new. I have been told this plane is a lot to handle for a new flyer.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif[/img]

have flown it about 6 times. the reviews were dead on the nose is weak (easy to reinforce and still look great!)and it is a bit under powered. I am curantly placing a brushless in it. insturucter said easier to learn with power.other than that it is a great plane really flys and looks great. of course I put A nice paint job on it. WATER BASE SPRAY ONLY ON THE FOAM. OR ELSE IT MELTS. If I can help I will let me know

YES the electra jet is very responsive NOT EASY FOR A BEGINNER but if you are very gentel it is nice can't wait for new motor!

Is there a water based spray you can buy in a spray can? I don't have a compressor and paint gun.

What type of brushless are you putting in. I can't figure out the specs on the brushless. The numbers make no sense to me. Do you know what they stand for?

yes you can go to arts and crafts store and get it. there's also others but I don't know what or where but I will Its alot of fun to paint them. I can email you a shot of my jet if you want . The motor is a 16/15/4 not sure of the frist two # but the last is turns I put it in and it really screams. Have not flown yet but can tell it's ALOT! more powerfull. Can't wait to fly later

Thanks for the tip on the art supply stores. I will check them out.

I plan to embed a hollow carbon arrow shaft into the foam to support the nose. I will cut a small cap off the tip of the nose, drill into the foam to make a hollow. The shaft will then be epoxied all along its length and pushed into the channel I drilled. This should give the nose the support it needs and should not add any significant weight. Of course I then epoxy the nose tip back on and no one is the wiser.

It has also been recommended that I put something on the two sides of the equipment area on top, right where the nose extends out. Apparently this is the other part of the break area.

I have considered leaving the bottom fin off but not sure.

Do you launch with the motor on or do you glide it out and then hit the motor. I have seen the Zaggis launched with the glide/power technique.

As for the motor, what are turns?

not sure but i think it has to do with the copper wire and number of turns. What you are talking about is pertty much what i did. except I used a 1/8 inch driil bit about 10 inches long and worked it in by hand.then i put glue down the hole and worked it in making sure glue was all the way through the hole. one right down the middle and two along the intake ventsone on either side. did that before i flew it the second time. didn't seem to mess with the cg any. as for the launch juice it up and give it a toss and away she go's. and for the landing just cut the power and she will glide down nice. look for the shot. let me know what you think

Yep, that's the plan except this is a 1/4 inch hollow carbon shaft.

I should start building some time next week. I just spent a few hours overhauling my Aerobird. With all the bangs and crashes that htis plane has been through, I can't believe it still flies and flies well. I hope the Electrajet doesn't have to go through with the Aerobird did.

I installed the carbon rod tonight. I cut the tip of the nose off, about 2/3 inches from the end. Then took a long 1/4" drill and drilled back almost to the equipment bay. Then I mixed up a batch of 12 minute epoxy, coated the inside of the shaft and the hollow carbon rod and slid it in. Finally I epoxied the tip of the nose back on. Hopefully it will prevent the nose breaks that many have experienced. The carbon rod is so light I think It may be lighter than the foam I removed.

I will do a couple of other quick reinforcements before I start to assemble. All based on great advice from this and other threads. I will let you know of the outcome. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

I had one rod down the middle for my frist flight. it came down a little hard and cracked it right where the wing meets the fuse. Thats when I put the other two smaller rods on the sides same as before drill bit ect. By the way new motor is great. Flys about 50-60 miles per perrty good! loops no prob. might want to add the extra rods.
