Engine Won't Start
 

Okay I am fairly new to this with my 2nd airplane. I have a magnum .25 engine and for some reason it will not start. When I turn it over with the power starter it sends fuel through the carb and at times it will lock the propeller and as soon as I drain it. It will spin the prop. I tried priming the engine before turning it over and it still keeps happening and I tried new glow plugs. Just running out of ideas on what it is. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Your flooding it. If you turn it with a starter and liquid lock it, you can bend the rod or the crank. Close the needle, lower the tank a bit, or pinch the line till it fires. It is over primed. Are you sure you are getting power to the glow plug? Take the plug out, put a rag over the hole and spin it with the starter to clear the fuel from the engine. Then try it again. Make sure it is glowing and the needle is not open too far too.

Have you checked that the glow driver is working OK? (i.e. is the battery charged fully? Does the glow plug actually glow?)

Okay, I charged the glow plug starter and took and replaced the glowplug and both of them burn bright red. It started popping today but it is still acting like its flooding it and still won't start. Taking it to a more experienced modeler to have him look at it.

That will help. Pinch the fuel line till it starts, then let go. It must be set too rich or your tank is too high and gravity is feeding fuel when it shouldn't be.

well the fuel tank is set to as low as it can go because it is on the floor of the plane now with no padding under it. I will keep you informed on what happens when I take it someone experienced to work on it. Thanx for trying to help me. Okay, there are two screws one is right next to the air intake area and the other one is next to the throttle arm. I don't know if they need to be set to a certain area and if that could be the problem that they might need tightened up or loosened.

Don't touch either one. They are factory set. The one in the throttle arm may need to be tweaked later, but not much. Hopefully you haven't messed with either yet.

The other is the barrel slide screw. It locks the barrel open.

nope haven't messed with anything. took it to the more experienced r/c pilot and he got it running and everything is fine. thanks for letting me know

I have a magnum 53 engine and I had similar problems to yours. I had to start the engine at 1 and 1/4 turns on the needle valve. and it was still very rich. I had to start it with a 1/4 to half open throttle to get it running then I could lean it out enough to run good enough at idle.

That is exactly what he was saying, the .25 had to be turned at 1 turn to run, I guess its just the magnum engine.
