trainers

Is there REALLY a differance or is it just personal preferance between the Sig Kadet, Hobbico avistar or superstar, or the hangar 9 alpha trainer?

I am leaning toward the Kadet because it has 70" wingspan, longer than the others.

Thanks for any input.

There are some differences.

The Avistar is a decent airplane, just a little better than the Superstar 40. the Kadet LT-40 is sturdier and slower than the Hobbico models.

I have not seen the Alpha yet. (I expect I'll see one this year when helping beginners at the local field.) From what I have heard... it should be between the Kadet and the Superstar in durrability and flying speed.

Try a Hobby Lobby Telemaster 40. 73" span, taildragger, and flaps to boot. Very stable, predictable, and will land at a crawl. Problem is...you've got to build it!

;) If you want HUGE.. get the Sig Kadet Sr. 78 inch span.[X(] And makes the Telemaster look like a racer if you keep it light. ;) The kit version I have seen flown on a .25 and it did just fine. This plane can handle having a .60 put in it and you can pt barn door ailerons and flaps in the wings relatively easilly. (It can do a 0 roll-out landing in 10 mph wind with a .40)

There is an ARF version of the Kadet Sr and they recommend a .46 as best engine when using it as a trainer. You can stick a .60 in and its still good as a trainer, but can double as a glider tow-plane. (and do a lot of other interresting things.)

I got the Alpha and it has been a breeze to train on. So far just one prop broke on me, just came in a lil too hard once! No biggie though! :) Cruises like a champ! Bearly touch the controls and it makes its turns! Takes off with ease and lands super slow, gives me plenty of time to make slight adjustments comming in! The set up is great for all it gives you! A couple guys at my last field had them and they all loved them! In the end its up to you and your money! THe Alpha has deff come down in price since i bought mine! Go get an alpha!
