i think there is a problem with my glow plug igniter.
after charging it for 15 hours (like it says) it gives one start and then dies.
do I have a bad igniter or am i doing something wrong?
its a 1.5V kwik-start by dubro.

I'm also looking for a spinner nut for a thunder tiger pro .46

Without putting the glow ignitor on a battery cycler... and observing what is going on with how you use it. ???? (and verifying what battery is in it... That is one that can have the battery changed isn't it?)


You SHOULD get a couple of dozen engine starts per glow igntor charge. Assuming you don't have the ignitor on the engine longer than what is typical to just get the engine started. If you leave the thing on for hte whole flight... that might fully discharge it from just one start. (I have seen that... [&:])

I have gotten 5 to 8 starts per trip to the field and up to 4 trips on one charge of the ignitor.

DuBro makes a spinner-nut that fits the TT .46 pro. 1/4-28 thread if I remember correctly. (they make the same shape spinner-nut in about 6 to 10 different thread sizes. I can check with my TT .46 for the correct size.)

i leave it on for about 4 sec max wonces the gegen has started and it only takes one flick with the stick to get it started

My glow stick (or igniter as you call it;)) lasts me for weeks and weeks, infact I've had it just over 6 months and charged it 3 times! That includes about 20 starts per session, with a session nearly every week! But mine is a 2500mA capacity!
One trick I use to check if it's charged up or not, is to use a small 2.2V bulb from a torch (flashlight). If it glows bright for several seconds the it's good to go, if it starts fading then it needs charging. Oviously, this isn't exactly "high tech" or very accurate, but it works. You could also just use an old glow plug (I use my bulb though because it won't burn your fingers!:D)

i use a cox battery box and the kind of lighter that has the wire on it...the battery box holds two "D" cells.i never have to worry about power to the glow plug...i tryed the standard ones but this set up works a whole lot better...

The cell in your igniter is toast.

You CAN change the cell if you want to save a few bucks on a new igniter. The plastic that wraps the thing can be sliced arounf the top and removed. Then you can get to the cell and replace it.

You'll have to use large shrink wrap or duct tape (;)) to hold it together after.

I agree the battery in your nilighter is junk. If it is new see if you can get it warrenteed before committing surgury to it. Minn is right you can change the cell. But for the price of a new igniter I would not monkey with it. I would buy a new one. BTW I get several weeks out of my igniter between charges.
