Everyone has brands they favor.. and brands they hate. And usually you can find 5 guys who will give 7 opinions on any given brand.

I learned long ago that there really isn't much difference between brands of fuel. There may be a difference in how the fuel gets handled in shipping to some locations, and that might make a difference in the fuel when it gets to the modeler. You CAN abuse fuel and make it not do as well. (but that's relatiely hard to do too... you almost have to try to harm fuel in a sealed jug and not make it explode.)

I recommend that beginners start off with 10% nitro. I prefer my fuel to have some castor oil in it in case of a fuel line problem.. as castor protects better vs damage when the fuel mix leans out. Some people swear by castor... some swear at it... I just read up on the properties of oils and choose a fuel with a good blend.

For a beginner... with someone helping you properly tune the engine... use whatever the local expert recommends.

I have definite preferences for fuel I use.

But FHH is right, even though I personally swear by my fuel and swear at some other brands, I personally know guys who have the reverse opionion.

I also agree that 10%-15% is good for beginners, 10% is fine and saves you money, 15% is ok if you need fuel and there isn't any 10% around.

Iagree with all of the above. I use 10% with 20% oil. I only use fuel with a castor/synthetic oil mix. I am currently using Byron's 10% sport fuel. I like it . I have used and reccomend Morgan's,SIG, Wildcat,Byron's. I fly the best fuel that I can get at my LHS.

Try mixing your own. It's much cheaper buying the ingredients in bulk and mixing up your own. Make certain the methanol is stored in air tight containers full to the brim as methanol has an amazing ability to adsorb water.
A good universal mix for two and four strokes is 20% Cool Power Blue Oil, 70% Methanol and 10% Nitro.

Cheers,

Colin
