2 engine planes
in a plane with 2 or more engines do the engines all plug into the same speed controller or do they have seperate plugs?[sm=confused.gif]
thanks |
RE: 2 engine planes
I am pretty new to electrics. What I have been told is:
If you are using BRUSHED motors, you can use one ESC - just make sure the amp rating is equal (or more) than TWICE what you will use PER MOTOR. ie each motor draws 10 amps, the ESC should be 20 amp (or more). If you are using BRUSHLESS motors, you will need an ESC for each motor. |
RE: 2 engine planes
thanks for the help

RE: 2 engine planes
You might want to check ezone out they specialize in E-flight.
Campy Having never tried twin electrics I'm not disagreeing with you but if each motor draws 10amps then you have a current draw of 20 amps wouldn't twice that be 40 amps Again just thinking of it from a household wiring perspective the load on a given circuit is Based on the combined amount of usage (current draw) of the devices using the circiut Correct Is it not??? A 15 amp circuit supports an unlimited number of devices UP to a 15 amp current draw before the breaker trips. |
RE: 2 engine planes
i think what he ment is that haveing two 10 amp motors will require 20 amps together, or twice that of one motor since there are two. therefore you will need 20 amp or greater ECS.
I will check out ezone though |
RE: 2 engine planes
I thought that also Mike, But got a little confused because two 10 amp motors draw 20 amps a twenty amp ESC leaves no margin for error If you look some of the motor specs the amount of current they draw changes with different props. Thats why I was asking for the clarification. Hate to see you burn out an ESC

RE: 2 engine planes
good point i, i dont want to burn it out and wast the $ but i was looking through some of the planes at hobby-lobby and it seems they suggest a 12 amp ECS for a 10 amp motor. So two 10 amp motors, 20 amps total, should go fine with a 22 amp ECS. thanks for the suggestions.
