It's just a box where you keep all your equipment. There is usually a spot for you starter battery, fuel can, starter and all the other misc. items. They are nice because you carry it to the flight line and you have everything right there.

Something to throw up in just incase you get motion sick while flying.

tower hobbies is a great product catalog and pretty much all that you can find in there you can find at venture hobbies over on Dundee Rd.

(yeah, too many ??)

A feild box, as stated, is a box in which you store your feild tools and such. such as teh starter, wrenches, screw drivers, allen keys, a tube of rock-hard expired CA, one tube of epoxy, a few glow plugs, a pen that won't work, teh radio manual, and assorted other stuff that's deemed 'important' for a successful day's flying.

You can get a specific one, form Sig, Great Planes, Hobbico, CG, etc.. or you can get a typical tool box form the the Home Depot, Lowes, Target, etc..

(And get a little multi-compartment storage box for the little things, like screws, nuts, retaining clips, servo arms, etc..)

T,
Field boxes come in two generic types.
The first, and my preference, is a tool or tackle box you carry your needed equipment in.
My tackle box has room for my transmitter, starter, and VOM in the top.
It has several drawers with compartments for tools and accessories. ($30 from WalMart)
I carry the fuel separately. I fuel up at the covered tables/assembly area and only take the starter, igniter, transmitter and
plane to the starting area. Only the plane, transmitter and pilot go to the flight line.

The other type is a box has room for fuel, starter/igniter battery and all of your equipment.
This heavy box, which is why I don't care for it, has to be carried to the starting area.
The starter and igniter have wires running from them past the spinning prop to the starter box.
The other reason I don't care for it.
Then, after the flight, the heavy box has to be carried back to the table/assembly area.
However, if you are having trouble starting then all of your tools and spare parts are right there.

I don't like to see equipment near the flight line. If I'm having a troublesome landing I don't want
to also have to worry about dodging equipment laying around where it isn't supposed to be.

See what other people at your field are doing and evaluate what you think will work best for you.

Good Luck,
KW_Counter

I have a "heavy box" from thunder Tiger, it has a fuel resevoir, a 12V batt. an electric fuel pump, starter, glow igniter, and a four way wrench. It isn't too big, so carrying it to the flight line isn't really that big of a deal. It has just what you need and is 75 bucks.
I'll try and post pictures later

Another idea. $29-$39 at the hardware store. I fly an hour from home and hate to have to put a plane away on a nice afternoon because of a little piece of hardware.

I've got an "all-in-one" box that I use. It has fuel, battery and all the bits needed at the field. It is NOT a rebuilding kit or full shop (I can do simple repairs, but not build a plane from scratch like some of the boxes I've seen).

I got one for free from a club member.

Mine is a Craft-Air old yellow plastic toolbox with a space for a starter (I use that space as a trash bin:D), a drawer, a recess for random tools (my igniter, a screwdriver, my AMA card and club thingyamabobber), a 12v battery holder, a can'o'fuel holder, and a transmitter holder.

Heavy enough without the fuel!!!
