Install prop question
I am putting a new prop on my Nexstar. They were out of the kind it came with but said I could us a 11.5" wooden zinger. two things, I notice the wooden props don't screw on, it just sits on there? Secondly, when I put the nose cone over the top of the prop there is a lot of play between the prop and the slits the prop sticks out of. The prop the plane came with was snug. Can this be correct?
Thanks, Tony |
RE: Install prop question
My understanding is you don't want the prop to touch the nose cone,as long as the prop fits snug on the shaft it will be ok,just remember to balance the prop.
Good luck |
RE: Install prop question
you will want to go and buy some nylon props. The wood ones don't like touching the ground(CRACK):)

RE: Install prop question
Why would my prop ever touch the ground? Heh Heh

RE: Install prop question
The people I fly with strongly reccommend running the back edge of a pocket knife across the sharp edges of those nylon props. Takes the sharp edge off and prevents blood leaks when you slide your finger along it.

RE: Install prop question
I broke about 5 wooden props before someone at the field finally clued me in and told be about nylon prop. My landings are still pretty crude and the prop ends up ticking the ground (and killing the engine) on almost every landing.

RE: Install prop question
1) The prop doesn't have to screw on. It should NOT wiggle around either. If you can wiggle it around on the shaft then the hole is too big.
2) You need to balance the prop. [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXK247&P=0]This[/link] is good enough. 3) The prop blades should never touch the spinner (nose cone). It doesn't matter if the opening is way too big. |
RE: Install prop question
Thanks for the replies. I did get the prop balanced, put together the balancer thingy this morning. The wood prop is snug on the shaft. I have some nylon props on back order.
