Battery Down Time ??

How long can you safely let your eqipment sit with fully charged batteries before you need to recharge to fly? This windy weathers really becomeing a pain in the rear. Also Ive been told that 4, 15 min flights is the max safe time for standard battery packs that come with the flight packs. I think their 600 or 650 mah. Is that about right?

The only "safe" bet is to check you batteries before every flight (tester). I charge my batteries when I return from the field, then keep them on trickle (@5-10 mAh) until I fly again. You can do this for several weeks. SR batteries (www.srbatteries.com) has a lot of good info on charging batteries.

Well, if I charged my flight batteries from Friday night until Saturday morning, wasn't able to fly Saturday but went on Sunday, I wouldn't charge them again. BUT! I'd be sure I tested them before the first flight.

I would NEVER charge the pack Friday night and trust them on Monday or Tuesday!

Nicads usually hold their charge pretty well. I've tested packs that sat for a week, and had them show 5.0v, which is a pretty fresh charge. But I've also had packs drop off over that week, just normal variance and such.

So, no, I wouldn't fly a week "stale" charge. But the good news is that I would fly a pack that was charged a week ago, then only on the charger for a few hours prior to flying. I've used a fast charger in the car, and had the plane fully charged before I reached the field many times.

I used to worry about this too then i found some info on www.rcbatteryclinic.com then click on the left hand side where is says keep you batterys in a charged state without damaging overcharge.
