running down the batts?
I just flew my wingo for the frist time sunday. What a blast. alittle knee knoking at frist but i settled in. any way i know you are suppose to drain your batts down every so offten but is it a good idea to use the plane servo,motor ect to do it?I read about not draing too much because it is hard on them want to take care of these they aren't cheap. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks alot!

To discharge the receiver battery on a glow plane properly you basically need a special battery discharger.
Since this is an electric plane, however, you've already got one stuck on the front (or behind the wing on the Wingo) spinning the propeller. The batteries will probably be just fine since you're discharging them almost all the way every time you fly. If you fly until the ESC cuts off they're probably very, very empty. |

On the Wingo... when the ESC auto-cut-off stops the motor, you've discharged the battery as far as you want to. The auto-cut-off is at appx 3.8 volts, which is not a lot over .5 v/cell. That's as far as you ever want to discharge any NiCd

How about NiMH? Do they need to be "drained" occasionally? I remember trying it once. They responded longer the next flight, then dropped off in flight time, untill they would not start the motor without cutting out by the BEC.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img] Checking the pack I found a cell had no power at all. Did I damage it by draining the battery?[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img]

check out www.rcbatteryclinic.com for good info. There is a lot of missinformation posted on these forums so do not believe all you read. Check with the experts like Red's site or Radical RC, both sites give good and accurate info. In short, yes you can ruin your batteries by discharging them to low, NiMH are more easily damaged than NiCads.
