Looking for a First Plane
 
I've got an idea.;)

I've been looking at this:

Novice

Sid King the designer of the Novice (1975) is a ver familiar personality in modelling circles with a well deserved reputation for quality designs. The novice is very simple, it is hand launched and is suitable for the beginner. It can perform mild aerobatics on its diminutive .10 sized engine and for those that dont want an engine at all it can be used for slope soaring.

It says radio 2-3 channel, could I use a 2-channel and simply have the engine set constantly to 2/3 throttle (or full throttle - would have to experiment). Since it also basically a powered glider (seems to me anyway), I could become profecient at controlling the airplane as a glider, then once I'm confident, get the engine running. Probably an Enya 09 would go in it.

What do you fellas reckon? Would it be suitable to use with standard servos?

Doesn't sound like a good idea man.


Besides the fact that you wouldn't be able to land the bird untill you are out of fuel, you really need a servo on the engine to keep the arm from moving. You also need to be able to tune it.

You would have to hand launch it, I guess thats not a huge deal since it is so small.

In my opinion, its a bad idea. You need at least 3 channels to fly any glow plane, and four if it has ailerons.

Could I just have ailerons and elevator control and control it like that (as a glider, not as a powered craft)?

I could just get a friend to throw it off a steep slope or something (loads around here as well as some high rocky outcrops that would be perfect). Can I use any high-wing trainer aircraft as a glider? Only some have proper landing gear which would make for a softer landing.
BTW, the thought of ailerons rather than a rudder is that I think I'm right in thinking I'll be able to perform a lot more aerobatics with aileron control. I can just (is it yaw?) spin the plane on it's axis and use the elevators to turn etc.

You can't have any high winged plane. It has to be a plane with a lot of lift. If it doesn't have enough lift it will be dart instead of a glider,lol.

Again, I am not a glider expert, but I can't see what the landing gear would matter to much.

Well.. It looks cool but.. Why don't you get a trainer with a flight pack and an engine you can move on to another plane later(way later). Get something that looks like an LT40, six channel radio like a a JR or Futaba, an OS46, Mag52 or a TT46. You'll be happier if you do.. You're next plane will be a witch with a B if you go with a 3 channel.. G'luck and do what you want!
