Lowlevlflyer why dont you take your own advice "Jesus H.!! If you cant reply with something constructive that actually pertains to the guy's question, why not just keep your mouth shut!"

With 121 posts this has to be a "Troll"
Guess I'm missing something, and please excuse my stupidity, but what, exactly, is a "Troll" in these discussion groups? I have seen it used before, but could never figure out it's meaning.

To be honest I don't know what they meant by "Troll" either.

I do know it wasn't positive so I focused more on the REAL advice that was given. If you would look at my history of posts you would realize that a lot of them were just plain responses. Posts stack up quickly when you are on this site for awhile.

Lee and Downside,
There's a lot more to RCU than airplanes, like cars and boats. So don't simply assume that someone with posts under their belt has ever posted HERE before. ;)

dano,
What kind of stupid question is that? (Sorry, but that response is one form of trolling. :) ) A Troll is someone who posts a question or comment simply to try and get a rise out of people, or to start an argument. A Troll can also refer directly to the post and not the individual. Hope that helps.

It does help, Thanks. I'll make sure I stay out of conversations where someone has used the term. :D

Yes Dbcherry i realise that now, i was quite surprised how one comment can cause so much offence i will definately be more carefull about what i say now :)

I would also like to point out that i do not abuse or flame people and have always given advice to the best of my knowledge, i was lucky enough to have a great instructor and if i can pass the advice i was given on then i feel like i am giving something back. Do you know what i mean?

I realized that Cougar,

That's why I didn't make this post an argument match. If that's what "Troll" means I guess I learned something new on this site, (That's why I'm here to learn, help out and get advice). In no way was I trying to start an argument or create confusion. I just wanted to know if I could fly my trainer in a park because I can't get to a field. I guess I will have to wait until I can.

Mr Jones, sometimes a troll is a newbie that is so newbie that its ridiculous for some of the locals we just dont believe it..so in your case..basically..."can I learn to fly my plane in downtown New York city" is kinda like " can I throw and catch my new plane instead of take off and land"??..the answer..sure! ..once!!!..but you wont have a right hand after that..not to discourage you..maybe a search would be in order,,see you did some homework about the clubs,,if they disbanded..its likely there is a reason..if your friend left you a motorcycle and you didnt have a license... would you try and drive it,, in downtown NYC?.....just a perspective view..Rog

RE: What should I do with a Trainer plane.

I guess you are right to a point,

Have you ever been to NYC? Manhattan is populated for sure and I wouldn't dream about flying a plane there. I live in the outskirts of Manhattan, (Bronx) where there is a little more room to breathe. Here, you can go to a local park, (Vancourtland) in the early morning with about 20 acres to yourself and fly a plane with no questions asked. We have a flying site here called Floyd Bennet Field which is in Brooklyn it's an old airfield that people use to fufill there R/C fantsies. It's too far to Train or Cab it there so I will have to wait until I get a lift or buy a car. No matter what I am going to stay in R/C.

PS If you have never been to New York, don't believe what's on T.V.

RE: What should I do with a Trainer plane.

I love this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "don't fly you might kill someone" please fly your airplane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with that logic you better not drive or do anything for that matter because you might kill someone. The facts use your head and go early in the morning, so there is not a lot of people around and be as safe as you can. This is all you can do, if you can't get someone to help you. Don't give up the hobby because you are worried about killing someone. Remmeber the hobby is not about the ama or clubs its about flying models. I have been flying for more than 25 years and have crashed, lost radio exc. This is because it happens no matter who is flying or helping you, if you feel good go for it. I stress you don't need a club or flyer to get into the hobby, everyone one got started someware and this hobby got started buy a guy that did exacly what I'm telling you to do, with no ama no clubs and all of that BS. The only thing they did have back then is somebody telling them don't do it you will kill someone LOL but they did and that is how the hobby got started just with the love of flying and using their heads. give that plane hell and good luck(you will crash just get over it and fly)

PS all you guys that don't like it "to bad" this is why the hobby is not growing and hobby shops don't last because its about flying any way you can not all the other crap!!

Thanks Reap,

You are da man. I can't wait for a few years to go by so we can share plane stories, as a beginner in the hobby I realize I have
a long way to go. Great post!!!!

Hi all, this is my first posting reply. I also live in the bronx Mrjones30 and we're in the same boat, but the good news is I've spoken to MR JOSEPH SCIMECA and let me tell you the guy is very helpful and nice, he even invited me to his home so we can go over my plane before it's first flight, isn't that nice? :)And here this, I also have a NexSTAR from March of this year and I love that plane. BUT DO NOT TRY AND FLY THAT PLANE IN A BASEBALL FIELD.It is better to be safe than sorry!:( GET IN TOUCH WITH MR. SCIMECA HE'LL BE GLAD TO HELP YOU or you can contact me at [email protected] and I will be more than happy to fill you in on all your options;).So email me if you can, cause it sure would be nice to have someone close by (I'm a few blocks from Yankee Stadium) that shares the same interest in the greatest hobby in the world.:D

Don't rush and you will have a plane and also learn to fly.:D

RE: What should I do with a Trainer plane.

It's people like reaper329 that will get this hobby banned in most places.

The argument about the bygone days of early RC just don't cut it. Back them we had a LOT more open space and a LOT fewer regulations. Those early flights took place in areas where they had a few hundred wide open acres, and little danger of running into a car, a building, or a small child.

50 or 60 years ago when RC was first being experimented with, if you hit someone's property (or someone) with a plane, the chances are that you wouldn't get sued and lose everything you own either. And airplanes were still a fascination to the public. Pilots were revered as demigods, looked at with awe, and were allowed any manner of transgression. That just ain't the case today buckie.

I see your in Illinois reaper, and am guessing that finding open spaces to fly isn't an issue.

MrJones,
Good on you for using common sense and waiting for the right opportunity. Keep in mind, the average trianer will fly at about 50 MPH, or nearly 20 feet per second. When the plane is out of control, as it could easily be in the hands of someone that's never flown, that doesn't give a lot of time to react if kids suddenly come running over to see what you're doing. Which happens all the time.

MrJames is giving you another avenue to follow. So good luck, and have fun.

RE: What should I do with a Trainer plane.

Thank you,

I respect all opinions also thanks for your input. I was at an R/C car race track today with a friend of mine that only enjoys
R/C cars, (I personally think planes are better) and I asked my friend could I tag along. I brought my older airplane which is a tail dragger, (I have never flown it) I asked a guy over there that is really into cars but loves planes as well to start up my engine
and get it going just to see if it would start. It did and it's a powerful plane. I will have to wait to fly this one in the future though.
The guy I was talking to today his name is Adam and he's a great guy. He gave me a lot of insight on flying. I asked him to teach me to fly and he said no. I respected his decision and we kept talking about planes which was great. With my AMA card in hand I will wait to fly my plane in a desginated area. At least until I can fly the ones that I have very well.

AMAZING Mr JAMES!!!!! I use to live two blocks away from Yankee stadium years ago on Jerome avenue. I use to play baseball in
mulally park when I was younger. I don't know if that is your e-mail address because I think you typed it wrong. E-mail me at [email protected] so we can learn how to fly together. My Nexstar is taking up too much space especially due to the fact that I'm not using it. I live further uptown in the Bronx now by Pelham Parkway.

mrjones, i am glad to see mrjames has responded to you, lives near you and wants to help. good luck and please let us know how goes.

Reaper, how can you tell him to just go fly it?? i am sure if he lived in the middle of no where, like illinois with you, that wouldnt be a problem. But telling someone to fly a guided missle in a populated area is just plain retarded! especially if its being flown by someone that has never had a plane off the ground before in there life!!
Yeah LOL, he might kill someone, how funny!! the fact is, someone could get killed, and you find that funny??

RE: What should I do with a Trainer plane.

I can tell him to go fly it because he can and should, do you guys or girls from the looks of it, even read his post or mine his said he had a open baseball field close to him. I dint't tell him to go fly in a crowded area so he could hit kids at 50mph. Please don't take your anger and dislike of my opinion by using false facts. I told him to use his head and fly early when no one is around. I feel the ama is Strong in all of you lol. I am glad to see someone is going to help him get started, but with that said you can do it on your own I did and lots of people do with out problems and killing children (dramatic Pause). Ow and about getting places banned I fly at 3 places where the old ama guys are asked to leave because of you can't do that, you cant do this, this is not a ama field and on and on and on. Every once in awhile I forget that I am in America.

ps I live in IL yes right outside that little city of Chicago nothing but room ya right lol

Mr. Jones,

You're correct.....my email address is [email protected]. I inadvertently omitted the 't' in optonline...oops! [&:] Nonetheless, I sent you two emails with my telephone as well.

I think we've both gotten a lot of great advise from a lot of experience flyers. :) And even reaper329, thanks. And you're right, we just have to get out and just do it. That said, we will use some precaution by having an instructor present and then let loose! :D

Looking forward to telling of the experience! [8D]

The last time I tried a members search, I thought it would be rather neat to access that database by a minimum of state or country, just to see how many other RCers there are from your (or a paticular) area that are members of RCU.

It may be possible and I just missed how to do that type of search..

RE: What should I do with a Trainer plane.

This is what reaper329 has to say in another thread.

I HAVE CRASHED ALMOST ALL OF MY PLANES BUT I ALSO FLY ON THE EDGE OF THE ABILITY OF THE AIRCRAFT AND THAT IS WHAT I LOVE I DIDN"T BUILD THEM TO LOOK AT THEM I BUILD THEM TO FLY YE HA!

YOU DO SNAP ROLLS 6 INCHES OFF THE DECK(MADE IT 5 TIMES on the 6th I ate it) AND TELL ME YOUR NOT GOING TO CRASH

I SUFFER FROM WHAT I LIKE TO CALL (I KNOW CAN DO IT)
I guess this is why we should all listen to him about safety and flying in a baseball field with or without people around. Sure everybody can try to teach themselves how to fly, but isn't it cheaper and safer to have someone help you. Flying balls out when you probably know you are going to crash (see above) isn't the best way to learn.

Anyone care to comment on how many more posts before this gets locked?? I'm guessing at least one more

What do you think reaper329 ?????????:D
