Help, E-starter weight, what is good?
 

I am fairly new to this hobby and just built my first kit plane, the GWS E-starter. I was wondering about the weight issue. I thought about building it tough since I might have a few hard landings, but I tried to keep it as light as possible. I have LiPo packs so that should help.

I was wondering if some of you guys could give me the ready-to-fly weight of your E-starter so I could sort of judge by that how I did. I need to borrow a mail scale to weigh mine.

The CG was showing it to be a bit nose heavy so I laminated the tail fins with clear packing tape to make them tougher. Its not much weight but it looks good and should toughen it up a bit. I haven't gotten to fly it yet because my Eclipse 7 Tx from Hitec was faulty and it is being shipped back to the factory so I have to wait on that.

This seems like a great group of helpful people on these forums. I thought you guys might be interested in seeing how you each did on your weight compared to everyone else. Thanks for the help and any other weight tips.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I suspect that the 400 motor will be a dog at 7.4 volts. My experience is that they wake up at about 9.6v and come to life on 3S lipos. Motor life is compromised on the 3S lipos if you are not careful with prop selection, however. If you already have made an investment in the 2S lipos, I would suggest looking at the 350 drive for your plane.

From the little I know, a geared Speed 400 motor driven plane should top out at about 20 ounces ready to fly. Direct drive would have to be something less.

Don't know the EStarter though, so....

Yeah, when I ordered the kit I thought it was a 350. I was wondering if it would be a problem. Thanks for the advice Davidinmi. I will just order a 350 with gear box, I can't fly for another 8 or 9 days until I get my Tx back anyway.
