Changing fuel brands
Have been using SIG fuel since I got my plane (4 gallons through it). I got this stuff off of my instructor. He had it from when they order fuel in January. I'm out now and the closest thing I can find is Omega. Same nitro content, same oil content, and same syn/castor ratio. Will it hurt my engine to switch brands? The manual says it will leave carbon deposits. So is it o.k. to use or not?
Fuel is SIG 10% nitro, 20% oil (50/50) |
RE: Changing fuel brands
I switch brands and sometimes nitro content from time to time aside from retuning I've never had a problem and some of my engines are 20 years old

RE: Changing fuel brands
Don't worry about it. I buy the fuels that's available at local hobby shops, and some of my engines have seen 4 or 5 brands in a year or two. Never had a problem. Of course, retuning may be required.

All of the major glow fuels are good. You will have to make needle adjustments as you switch, but they are all good.

RE: Changing fuel brands
Thanks guys, the truck wil be here thursday so Ill pick up a gallon or two. I know in january when my club orders fuel I'm ordering like 4 cases. They said it's 34$ a case because they buy in mass quantity. Thats why I tried to buy as much as possible when I started. They charged me $8.50 a gallon. But I could only get 4 gallons because everybody was holding on to what they had.

Morgan Omega is great fuel; the only one I'd recommend more is PowerMaster.

RE: Changing fuel brands
Omega will be fine. I use Byron's 10% sport fuel. Same concoction, works just fine for me. I like SIG too, but like others I buy from my LHS and buy what I can get. Like the Byron's though.
