RE: I flew my Engine (Close call)
Yeah. That was kinda how I felt. I just didn't want my wife to get mad at me for getting hurt doing something so dumb.[:@] I knew it would be over quick:D

RE: I flew my Engine (Close call)
Another thing to think about when using a bolt down test stand is use
the correct size engine mount bolts. Believe me i learned the hard way. I used to small of bolts on a saiot 72 and it ripped them off while on a engine test stand and crilled sideways and hit me in the stomach. I was lucky cause i had a jacket on even at that it ripped through my jacket and brusied the h$ll out of my stomach. |
RE: I flew my Engine (Close call)
I am LMAO on these stories...but have one of my own...Same same stupid, though I though I was doing it the right way.
I have an Alpha 40 trainer that I bought this last winter. Flying in North Dakota is a skitchey affair at best so I headed to the garage to warm up the plane and just dream of flying...Well I have the engine in the plane and the plane on a stand and the wheels chocked in place with 10 pound weights each wheel(20 total) This has got to be enough to hold the plane in place. So here I go throttle up and look how pretty it is and the plane jumped over the chocks. Of course I was standing RIGHT in front of the plane. I got the right hand out of the way, but not the left, hence the name Lefty. 12 stitches later and a trip to the ER and I am well educated in the art of plane tethering. You were very lucky as everyone has said and I'm sure you know as well. Now the problem is letting the new people know and learn from all our mistakes. The propellers can do serious damage. Lefty |

RE: I flew my Engine (Close call)
Guys ... the manual for planes say ... THIS IS NOT A TOY. I must admit the stories were funny ... plane running across the garage, engines flying off a vice ... Heheheeee ... :)

RE: I flew my Engine (Close call)
i have to admit i have not done anything like what some of you have. i was lucky today i decided to start my gp ju87 stuka which has a thunder tiger 91 in it. i connected the glo plug ignighter and started it with the starter. i had the plane teathered so i know it was safe to take it to full throttle. just as i got level with the wing to get behind the engine the spinner and prop flew across the lawn landing about 15 - 30' away. i wouldnt like to think of what would have happened if i was still in front of that prop. next time i will make sure i am behind the wing as soon as the engine is started
