REENTRY.....ADVICE

I have been out of the hobby for a year, sold everything, thinking about starting back as soon as I'm relocated. I was a good intermediate pilot......question is GLOW vs GAS ???

I prefer larger planes, 60/90 to 120 size, and just flying for fun and basic areobatics. My guess is that gas would be more expensive to start, but less to continue. ANY thoughts and ideas would be appreciated. Thanks blue77;)

For sport flying I would stick with Glow :)

Well I prefer glow, but I have a 31cc Ryobi conversion(weedeater motor to airplane). Real simple conversion if you have an old weedeater laying around.you can find instructions on this site on how to do it. That engine would be nice in a 1/4 scale J-3 cub or maybe a Super Decathalon close to that size.
- hope this helps

For the 60/90 up to 120 size, I would stay with glow.

If you want to fly larger than 120 size (1/4 scale and larger) go with gas. While the engine costs are SOMEWHAT comparable, you have a weight/power penalty with the smaller gas engines/planes.

Actually, gas would be cheaper to start than electrics, for 40 size and up. For a 60 size and over plane you can spend $300 to $400 for the motor, easily $75 to $100 for the speed control, plus another $100 (or more) for each battery pack (you'll want at least two), and $100 for a charger capable of charging those packs.

You can get a 120 size glow plane in the air for half that cost for the engine, and a 15 pound gas powered plane in the air for less than $500 (for the engine).

I fly small electrics once in awhile, but will not likely be flying larger planes with electric power until glow and gas is illegal. :D

Welcome to RCU and good luck with whatever you choose.

You might want to ask this in the electric forumn also. I think that this one is a little biased towards burning fuel!! :D

Hes not asking about electric, hes asking about gas or glow.
