How does this happen again?
1 Attachment(s)
Once again, it happened. Went in for a gallon of fuel and something else simple and cheap. Talked for about 30 minutes. Looked at a couple airplanes, talked about next airplanes, etc etc, but was at counter getting ready to pay for fuel and I saw it. Top Flite P-39, for sale by owner, ready to fly with Airtronics transmitter, S-T G-91 for power, air retracts, flaps, ding here and there but otherwise ready to fly. When I heard the price I about had spontaneous combustion from the speed my wallet flew out of my pocket. Turns out they were wrong about the initial price, but for $450 I couldn't walk away. I really didn't want to move up to a .60 sized plane, but as far as first bigger warbirds go, you couldn't do much better than this. Might get maidend today, but I think I'll wait untill I get a chance to talk to its owner and see what he has to say.. I've never dealt with air retracts or flaps. Been flying a warbird, but it's a .40 sized warbird, lower wing loading and all.
Only issue I had was it has an Airtronics radio, and I fly a 9C. Not a problem, I like Airtronics stuff, but now I have to carry another transmitter. Ok, pics... Andy |

RE: How does this happen again?
That's a nice looking bird you have there. It looks much larger in the photo. Hmmm, that gives me an idea.

If you had noted to the side just at the limit of your vision you might have seem a quick darting movement. They are the hobby monsters! The lurk just beyond your perception and whisper in your ears, "Buy it, buy it,buy it" They can not be eliminated, only apeased. Down here, we find that a few hundred now and then will quiet them down only to be replaced with the wife monsters who call out, "Didn't need it, didn't need it..."

RE: How does this happen again?
Andy, I have a bridge I want you to take a look at :D
PS, now you need to pop for a nice 4-stroke for that thing (a 60 size warbird REALLY needs a 4-stroke) |
RE: How does this happen again?
i had the same problem,i take the wife to the shop with me now,she gets really crabby if i spend over £100!

RE: How does this happen again?
I think the P-39, British Spitfire and Japanese Zero are the best.
The only thing about the P-39 is that their is no room for the engine. Models have it hanging out the front! |

And to think I forgot to tell you guys about the Spit I bought last week. No, week before last. What the hell, my birthday was Friday.... and you only live once. Anybody got a trailer they want to sell?

RE: How does this happen again?
A four stroke is an absolute MUST have for a warbird. Using a two stroke will upset the RC gods and severly shorten the expiration date of that plane! [X(]

RE: How does this happen again?
I agree, a 2 stroke on a warbird sounds a little out of place.

RE: How does this happen again?
I'm with all of you about the 4 stroke on a warbird. BUT both them came ready to fly (so they say) with the 2 stroke, and both of them are proven packages with the engines they have. I'll probablly fly them for a bit, see if I like them, then think abou t a 4 stroke. The P-39 would be a perfect candidate for an RCV engine... if I could figure out cooling.
