Newbie, need help with Engine
Killed a Magnum .40 that I had installed on my trainer (old easy fly 40, Hangar9) JB Weld doesn't help, I do have another Old K&B .61, can I use it with my trainer or is it too much??
No money :D , want to learn, and fly this weekend again, only minor repairs on the trainer needed. Thank You |

How in the hell did you kill a Magnum without completely trashing the trainer??? Most engines will take a hell of a beating before giving up the ghost.
p.s. IMO the .61 is too much for a .40 size trainer. |

Thanks Merlin, I don't know how, just happy it survived, needs lot's of epoxy some weight will be added that's why I tought I could use the .61.

If the K&B is the BUSHED BEARING type, you should be OK powerwise. The bushed 61s had about the same power as a ball bearing 40 - 46. Don't forget to rebalance the plane. MOST 61 engines like a 12x6 prop, so make sure you have adequate ground clearance.
How did you manage to "kill" the engine ? JB Weld usually works well. The key to getting it to work/adhere properly is to make sure the surfaces are CLEAN. I recommend using acetone to clean the part(s) and DO NOT HANDLE THEM on the surface to be glued - the oils on your hands can (usually WILL) cause a poor bond. One other thing - use the regular JB Weld. The 10 minute stuff, at best, has only 1/2 the strength of the regular stuff. |

Yea the old K&B 61 was not a real screamer stock. Could be made to run real strong with mods. But you could use it. As someone else said 12-6 and remember to use the left stick. Be sure to rebalance the plane. Good luck with it.

If you're hoping to fly this week, definitely use the 61, just keep the throttle back during manuevers.
