Cleaning Engines?
 

Yesterday, I augered in with my Nexstar and got dirt in the engine. How do I clean it, what do I clean it with? How do I take the engine off the mount? The needle valve is in the way of the engine mount screw, and I can't get my screwdriver to the screw that holds the needle valve on.

First, Flush out the engine with some fuel.

Second try a smaller screwdriver. I'm not being a smart *****, but it went in, it's gotta come out.

If all else fails, maybe removing the mount from the firewall will help

It is off, the fuselage was totalled when crashed.The screw is almost right behind the engine.

Hey markman.. Its as MinnFlyer said.. The engine went on,
Its gotta come out... Just take a break and keep looking at
it... There is a way.. As with auto's... You may have to buy
$900 worth of tools... But there is a way..:)

Had this problem not too long ago. As for cleaning the dirt out, use a q-tip and go to a local computer store and get a can of air. This is not a joke. They have spray cans for cleaning dust out of computer parts, works great on cleaning the carb. As for the screw, look to see of the needle valve bent as a result of the crash. If so, try to bend it back and take out the screw, otherwise as the others have said, it went on, it will come off, just take your time and think it through. What type of engine is it?

what caused your crash. I have one that two instructors have deadsticked and landed after no control

It is a OS .46 FXI 2-stroke.

I was flying inverted (to low for me), and decided to go down and under to get out. On the way down, I had a moment of indecision if it would make it or not, (decided not) and made a hole.

Yea, it's that split second of indecision that will get you every time.

If the engine is off, can't you remove the screws that hold the needle valve?

If it's still attached to the firewall, how about drilling a hole (Or two) in the firewall so you can get at the screws?
