Beginner needs help in electric r/c car

 I'm in need of a little help. I understand how nitro engines work becuase these have a throttle lever which you link to a servo. But what about electric motors. How do you get these to go forward and reverse? Plus how do you get steering to work in an R/C car when you use only a single motor/engine. My only experince is a homemade battletank. This had two heavy duty O/S nitro engine linked to geartrain each which powered a tank track. By controlling the speed of each engine I got steering. So this will be my first attempt at a single engine vehicle and I've decided to go electric because I'm cutting down on weight. So any help would be appreiciated. Links would be very useful.

There is a discussion group called "Cars" in this Forum that may be able to help you. Give them a try.

A servo controls the steering. A speed control controls the motor........
