What is a good 6ch second plane
I am still learning on my lt-40, but I'm starting to wonder what a good second plane will be. I have a futaba skysport 6 and I'm wondering what some good uses of those extra 2 channels might be (and the kits that require them).
Thanks, Wayne |

I think a good second plane is a GP Easy Sport. Great flyer, although you won't use those extra two channels. Comes in a kit or ARF. Mine has a Tower Hobbies 46, which gives it plenty of power.

One other thing, when I moved up to my second plane, I overhauled my trainer and rigged up a parachute drop in it. Something like that is kind of a challenge to rig up, lets you have more fun with your trainer after you've outgrown it, and uses a channel.

waszot, I would not be in a hurry to start using channels 5 & 6--let the uses come in their own time. It's more important to learn how to fly mid-wing and low-wing models before you start complicating things with flaps, retracts, or other functions that use a fifth and sixth channel.
If you want to build a kit, TexAg's suggestion of the Easysport is one that I would agree with. Also popular are Sig's MidStar and Four Star (mid-wing & low wing). Sig Somethin' Extra is also very popular as a second plane. I believe the Easysport and Four Star are now available as ARF's, if you prefer to go that way. |

The world model Super Stunt 60 is a very very great second plane with flaps you will have a blast.
It a fairly large plane with a 64" fuse and an 80" wing. A large two or 4 stroke is needed to haul this one around. A Saito 100 would be very nice. Randy |

A tiger 60 or tiger 2 both are good 2nd birds to fly. As for the other 2 Chanel's you go to flaps and a bomb drop. You put parachutes on the bird and send the kids off to retrieve the chute, lots of fun for the kids or just try to put the chute on the runway in front of you..

I would tend to agree with majortom. Don't try too much too soon. Learn to fly low or mid-wing planes first. Or, add a bomb drop to your trainer.
Remember, you need to take ONE step at a time. BTW, I also recommend the Goldberg Tiger, or the Sig 4 Star series as a great second choice. |

Thanks for the suggestions... One thing that I'm also thinking about is turning the trainer over to my wife to learn on and I'll move to a second kit. I'm thinking this will require a new radio and engine as well as the kit because I won't want to be exchanging equipment between the two all of the time. If I do this maybe I'll get a tricked out radio that supports multiple models (I'm guessing the skysport 6 would have to be retrimmed each time I switch planes if I just get a flight pack for the new model and use the same tx for both). Mostly I am just thinking ahead (because I'm no where near ready to stop flying on the trainer) because, well, I'm bored at work...

One other thing,
What are some other good online hobby sites to check out these models you guys have listed? Towerhobbies seems good, but they don't carry all of the brands, horizonhobbies seems even more narrow than tower (unless there are hidden links I'm not finding). Other than those two, I don't know of many others. Thanks, Wayne |

Now HERE'S an idea:
You can get a nice second plane with an upscale radio, and add a parachute drop to your wife's trainer! Then, while you're learning to fly you second plane, you can have some fun with the old trainer too! |

Hey! I just remembered, we bought two packs of little plastic paratroopers with chutes a while back. Maybe I can have my own infantry paratrooper unit!
Wayne Next stop, Iraq! (do I need to register my frequency with Saddam first?) |

the gp easy sport is great second plane. (i actually soloed with this plane as i had ripped the landing gear out of my trainer) it flys just as well inverted as upright, and will do an outside loop with a .40 engine. (have since traded up to a .46fx hee hee) the extra channels can be used for flaps, bomb drop, retracts, and just about anything else you can think of (cameras, bombay doors ect.) i also have a tiger 60 that i am building, this should be alot of fun an really stable . Can't wait to get this one in the air. Hope this helps, Loren

oh yea, make sure you get the box type dropper if you want to put your airborne division in it.
