scared to fly

i had a firebird commander and i wasnt that good at flying(crashed more than i flew) and my first succesful flight it got blew away. so i bought a megatech cosmic flyer because it was cheap but i am scared to try to fly it because i just dont want to wreck it and have to keep spending money to fix it. i dont have any flying fields near me so that rules out a person to help me if anyone could help me please do.

Download the free flight simulator or buy the RealFlight or G-2. This will save a lot of frustration and expense.

Don't be scared to fly. Both of the electrics you mention are very light aircraft. Neither are designed to be flown with any noticeable wind. Even though I don't suggest learning to fly on your own, just remember not to over control the aircraft. Keep the stick movements small and gentle.

As for clubs near you, there are several. I did a quick search on AMA's website and found the following clubs near you.

GA MOUNTAIN RC-201 GREEN HILL CIR NW GAINESVILLE GA 30504-4121
TOP GUN RC CLUB-1348 RIDGE RD HARTWELL GA 30643
HARTWELL TAILSPINNERS-201 RABBIT RUN HARTWELL GA 30643-3021
ATHENS MODEL AIRCRAFT CLUB-1051 RIVER RUN BISHOP GA 30621-1663
RABUN CO. R/C CLUB-CLAYTON GA 30525
ATLANTA DRONE SOCIETY-1966 LEBANON RD LAWRENCEVILLE GA 30043-5131

They are listed in a closest to farthest order in relationship to Homer, GA.

Try looking up some of these guys and get a little assistance with the control aspect and it will be a lot more fun for you.

Good luck! It's a great hobby/sport!

If you absolutely positively can't get help, I'll second the computer simulator advice. It helped me a lot and continues to help. G2 is very good. I also recommend Aerofly Pro. Both will get you a long way past that initial problem of only getting 5 seconds of flight experience before a crash.

I would still try to find somebody to help you out. I'm sure there are people on this website within a few miles of you and I'm sure there's a place to fly within 50 miles. Most people I know would go out of there way to help out somebody who's genuinely interested in learning. At least while you learn, having some experienced hands-on help would be a great advantage.

Here's a website with a link to many Georgia rc aircraft clubs:

I'm sure the aerobird class of planes are fine for many, but to me they're just too close to the "toy" end of the spectrum. Try to imagine learning to play guitar on a toy guitar with only 3 strings, without knowing how to tune it, and with no one to help you. Chances of success are low, discouragement high.

The Firebird series are pretty poor flyers, and going from that to a Megatech plane is a step down. [:o]

Do yourself a huge favor and take it back to where you bought it, then find one of the local clubs and spend a nice weekend afternoon hanging out talking to people. There's a real good chance that someone will offer to take you up on a Budy Box for a flight on a glow trainer.

Good luck,
Dennis-

I can personally vouch for the Athens club. We have a great bunch of guys and a nice flying site. I would look into joining a club if you're at all serious about the hobby. Not only can you get flight instruction, it's just a lot more fun than going it alone.
Have fun,
Michael

Actually I havent heard of the cosmic flyer so I shouldnt generalize but, you might have done a search before buying cheap, which tends to crash better than fly...
