Evo .46 NT aint startin...

Tried to start my new evo .46 When you move the prop, it feels very very stiff when the piston hits that point where it will backlash. My OS .46 on the other hand is smooth and you can even start it by just spinning the spinner by hand. This Evo .46 NT has what sounds like a muffled low grind noise at the point where it will knock back at you. I'm re-charging my field batt and my glow igniter just to make sure I am at full juice and will retry tomorrow. Anyone experience this on a new .46 NT???

New engines typically have a "pinch" at the top dead center point of travel. This is normal and desirable. After it is broken some, this may become less noticeable. Are you getting some pops with the glow igniter? If not, then you do not have glow heat or fuel. If these are both present, then you will at least get a pop. Find someone with a starter system to help you (12 volt battery and engine starter). Difficult to start engines will usually be easier to get going with a starter.

DM, she popped once, actually ran for about 1 second. I have a 12 volt field battery and starter. I put it and the glow igniter on the charger all nite. Am gonna try it today to see what I get. Also, I don't know if it makes any difference but this engine is mounted upside down. And isn't there something about where the fuel tank is located in relation to the needle valve?

Are you priming the engine? Both of my Evolutions, .45 trainer and .46 NT, need to be primed to start the first time of the day. I cover the carb, have full throttle set, and turn the prop 4-5 times when I see fuel flowing. I turn them once or twice to ensure they aren't hydrolocked. The NT started every time when new. It had a lot of pinch. You have to prime these engines and they should start easily.

You may have too much fuel accumulating in the head. Try turning the plane upside down so the engine is right side up and start it that way.

It fired yesterday for a brief time. It says that they break these in at factory. But, what kind of nitro? 10%? 15%?
I turned the needle to full off. Opened it up 2.5 turns. Put on my starter and glow ingniter. Engine started at full throttle (forgot about the throttle!!!) and promptly cut off both cords of the Hobbico starter!!! I'm pulling this engine out of my U Can Do and putting it in my Twist (just got yesterday and boy is wife a little ticked!!!). I am gonna use something a little bigger in the U Can Do.

I missed the part where the engine is inverted.

Blwblw, if I'm not mistaken, shouldn't being inverted have basically no effect? I've never had/dealt with an inverted engine before.
I should hopefully finish Twist today and fire up the motor. Every one I spoke to says this engine runs great. I'm just gonna start with the needle 2.5 turns out and set it to where I think it should be at by listening and reading the tach.\
