sig 4* 60

Hey guys ive flown alot righr now the planes i have are a hangar9 alpha trainer and h9 twist and a sig fazer a guy at my field has a 4* 60 that he is wantin to sell he built it himself and its is covered just like a spitfire it looks really good. How do these planes fly? and what size motors do u guys run on them and what kind of aerobatics can u perform with them. by the way i have him talked down to 104$ on it does that sound like a good deal?

If it's in good shape, and you like it, yes, it's a good deal.\

The 4* 60 is excellent. a good 60 BB 2-stroke, or 90ish 4-stroke is ideal for this plane.

And it'll do almost any trick in the book outside of 3-D

If the plane and engine are in good shape, go for it. The 4* series are deservedly all time RC classic planes. I`d bet they`ve trained more pilots than anything else when it comes to first low wing taildraggers.

RE: sig 4* 60

will it fly knife edge? and.. how would a saito 91 do on it

RE: sig 4* 60

I started out with the 4*40 and I liked it so much I built the 4*60. On my 4*60, I run the OS 61 and no problem with power. I don't recall if I ever tried a knife edge, but it sure does some mean snap rolls.

I'm more of a fun flyer so maybe some of the other guys can tell you more about aerobatics of the 4*60.

RE: sig 4* 60

yeah im more of a fun flyer too i might just save my saitos for my 3d planes and put a o.s .61 on it

just the plane for 104$ how does that sound to everyone i need to tell him if i want it or not tommorow and i cant figure out what to do

RE: sig 4* 60

$104.00 doesn't sound to bad if the plane if flyable. Check out what the kit would cost and then figure your time and materials.

I don't think you could build it for $104.00

RE: sig 4* 60

The kit is 90$ and the arf version is 209 there is nothing wrong with this plane he is just wanting to buy a super cub

For knife edge flight you will need to ad 1 inch to the rudder, and mix out some cuppeling to the bellly. But it is a fun plane to fly and lands like a trainer. And at $104.00 its a good value.

RE: sig 4* 60

I agree, at $104 that is a good bargain.

It will knife edge into the next county if you want but it does tend to pull slightly towards the gear whenever the rudder is involved. You can mix in some up elevator but I did a little trick that seems to have worked pretty well. Just seal the wing saddle with some 1/8 inch foam tape on both sides of the fuselage. Since I did that I still get the pitch issue with rudder usage but not near as bad, not that it was that bad to start with. You will find that the Twist also pulls towards the gear with just rudder and at speed the Twist can sometimes pull hard towards the gear so this is probably nothing new to you.

Other than that you will love the 4*. I have something similar to the same things you have/own. I own a 4* 40 and a Twist and usually end up taking both to the field and give both fairly equal amounts of flying time. I play with 3D on the Twist and fly the 4* to practice precision aerobatics (I know, not the best plane for this but if I can get the 4* to be fairly precise, just think of what I will be able to do with an Extra or Sukohi or a Cap when I grow up into those planes [X(]...)

it's a basher kit..so i wouldn't know what the stock setup
flies like. the plane has a weak spot right behind the wing
bolts former. i choose to build and bash.
mine can do knife edges .
consecutive rolls into the next county
invert with little or no elevator
lumceva into invert flatspins on command
not 3D, but it lands like a kitten.

i say look at the plane closer on how it was built
if you like the way it flies..$104 is not bad

i have a .61 magnum in it.
it had decent verticle....but didn't go to the moon.
it can't complete a decent size outside loop with 10% nitro,
with 15% it can. i tried different props, but went back to 12x5.

I have a mag 91 in my sig.... and yes it will knife edge.... you will have to throw in some elevator to keep it from bellying in on you but I can knife edge mine with no problems... heck it will almost hold a hover .. I am going to add on to the rudder this weekend and see if I can get a constant hover out of it:D.

If you have a computer radio you can increase the throws and have a blast with it! $104.00 a good deal

mine hovers or torque roll fine.

4*60 for $104 dollars built and covered to your liking and is in good condition sounds like a very good bargin to me. I built a 4*60 in the spring of 2003 and it still flys good. I have a YS .91FZ (supercharged) on it and these planes handle extra power very well. Spinning a 15x6 prop is no problem. CG @ 4-7/8". These planes will float and float. I added 1" to the rudder and elevator. The plane will hover and torque roll with ease especially since the CG is so far back. Knife edges are great also. Radar'd doing 116 MPH. That is the fastest I have ever flown it and haven't done it since. I use mine for 3D flying.

Go for it if you haven't already.

hell, if you dont buy it, i will.

I Have a 4* .60 with a OS .65 LA in it. It flys great, and yes, it can do knife edges.

DTB, how far back do you have the CG?

I'm sorry, thanks for catching that. I meant 4-9/16" instead of 4-7/8". 4" even is a good location, but further back than 4-9/16" the plane is a little too squirlly for my taste. I was thinking of my Funtana S 90 (7-7/8").

In my 4*60, I have 6 servos totaled. Dual elevator servos, pull-pull rudder, front fuel hatch, better tail wheel, plus other small additions I can't think of right now.

I think the plane looks great. I have to admit, I'm not crazy about the symbols under the canopy, but other than that. It looks great. Reminds me of a spitfire. Which is one of my favorite planes.
