Hi Bobby,

I have been teaching a mate to fly who has the same combination as yourself. The engine (to date) has run reliably after about half an hour of run in where it was run rich and then stopped each time the head became too hot to touch (20+ seconds).

The combination now has about 10 or twelve 5 to 7 minute flights and whilst I am still running it a little rich it starts and performs well. This is high praise from a person who runs OS, Saito and Super Tigre exclusively.

The Hornet seems reasonably well put together for an ARF. There were some problems with the wing seating properly which required removal of some of the wing saddle to achieve the correct incidence and the covering wrinkles freely in the hot sun. Aside from these minor irritations it flys well and is very forgiving in flight. To date all the landings have been floaters, how it will stand up to heavier landings when Don is confident enough to try one himself has yet to be seen. For the price of the combination it seems to be good value for money. The only other comment I would make is that I find the colour (sort of gold and pink with waves and fish scales???) ugly and hard to see against cloud. The addition of yellow trim to the underside of one wing helped enormously. This is probably just a personal preference.

Cheers,

Colin

Which engine did you get? We got a couple of guys here with the VMAX 52 and it was so 'impressive' on the first few flights. Now they both have problems with the tuning. They are both running on Pitts style mufflers so that might be the cause. The engines will not peak and tuning is not reliable. Oh well ... perhaps the plane does not like the Pitts muffler and hot humid climate.

As for the plane be a little careful, one newbie snapped the wings of this Apache trainer. He was not doing any really high G turns. DO a search on VMAR and see what is being said. :)
