Evo .46 NT
Hi everyone,
I need to buy a new 46 2 stroke engine. Looked around and saw this Evolution 0.46NT engine in a very good price (price is the same as a OS .46 LA). I checked on the net but found no info about the Evo output power so that to compare it with other similar engines (OS 46 FX, TT 46 Pro). Can anyone help me with any info? How reliable, powerfull and easy to handle in general is these Evo engines. Thanks ............. Panicos :D |

I have the Evolution .61NT engine myself. I haven't done any scietific comparison between this engine and OS .61 FX for ex., but my impression is that it has a good deal of power, but not as much as the FX series. However, i think the engine is a good choice if you're not on the limit with power. With the right prop and 10% nitro it will pull well. Other highlights with this engine is that i have never had an engine which is easier to maintain. I put the engine in the aircraft, flipped the prop two times against compression and it started, ran perfect, never touch anything since. Rgds Oistein |

I purchased an Evo .46 in May and compared with SC .46, OS LA .40 and SC .40 its easier to start and gives more power than SC .46. There are only two thing you have to be aware of that are slightly different from other 2-stroke engines, the weight is about 530 gram (approx 19 oz)inclusive muffler (the heaviest in its class) and it use long plug (four stroke).
I ran my engine on 15% nitro with 15% syntethic oil from a Norwegian brand and use 11 x 5 props that give rpm range from 2300 - 11500. So Im sure you not will be dissapointed if you chose an Evo .46 |

I've done side-by-side tach tests of the EVO .46, OS .46 FX, OS .46 AX, & TT .46 Pro -- other than weight (the OS & TT engines are ~20% lighter than the EVO), there is no meaningfull difference (+/- 100 rpm) between them with an 11-6 APC prop. The EVO, FX & AX marginally outpower the TT with stock mufflers (~100-150 rpm), however, if all have the baffles removed, there is no difference at all. The AX will turn a larger prop (12-5 Zinger) marginally faster than the others, but not enough to make it a purchasing decision, particularly considering that a 12-5 is too big for any of them.
I have found that the TT is the easiest to start & tune & the FX is the worst to tune, but all are pretty good. Take your pick -- they all work well. |

Let me add in here. I have an Evo .46 I run mine on 10% nitro (Byron fuels). If you do get one, by all means take the silly little ring off of the low end needle. My Evo had the low end needle completely closed upon new. Its supposed to be an adjustment threshold so you don't screw up but its really a hinderance. I'm thinking about another Evo, a .61 size (I can get new for $99) for a U Can Do 46 plane. The engine in it gets mounted upside down. Remember, these engines are made in China and who knows where they had the settings at. Supposedly, these engines are broken in at factory.

I have had two of the EVO 46 NT's. The only problem I had was with one of them starting "knocking" really bad and eventually would not run. This could have been a fluke or maybe I ran it lean or something.
I have a magnum 46 and I think I like it just as well if not more than the EVO for the same price. |

Thanks everyone for your help. Yet, is there somewhere writen whats the output power of the Evo 0.46 engine? At least what the producer claims to be the output power?
I think that is the only way to make comparison exept from testing it on the plane. Regards. |

I had a TT Pro .46, an OS .46 FX, and the .46 NT in the same plane with an 11x6 APC prop. The Evo had much more power from the first flight. A couple of us noticed it.

Before I totalled it being stupid, I flew my Twist on a Super Tigre .51, Magnum 46 XL, and the Evo 46NT. All these are bargain cost engines. My opinion of each:
Super Tigre .51 - ringed, ball bearings, gobs of power, light weight compared to the others, hard to get a good transition, touchy carb takes a while to get the idle right. Magnum .46 XL - ball bearings, ABC, good power, medium weight, easy to start, carb barrel screw has a tendency to come loose. Evo .46 NT - ball bearings, ABC, power between the Magnum and the ST, heavy, good throttle response, carb factory settings for idle not good. All three were run on 15% nitro 20 syn/castor blend fuel and an APC 12.25 X 3.75 3D prop. For the Twist, I found the Evo the best suited as the power coupled with the smooth throttle response made for good 3d flight. For a non-3D plane, I would recommend the ST.51 as I found it to have a good power to weight ratio, but setting the carb up for good fast transitions is difficult. Duke |

I think it is about 1,4 horsepower. There was a test in MAN last year but I give all my magazine to my brother last week som I not able to find this article.

I bought an Evo 61 to try on a Kaos 60. The speed and obvious power increase between it and the FX61 was almost scary. I have been looking to get more speed out of the Kaos and with a APC 12-6 prop on the nose the speed was almost too much to keep track of on a low high speed pass! The sound of the plane screaming across the runway had other pilots stopping to take notice! If the Evo 46 is anything like the 61, it would be well worth considering!!:D

I was flying a Fantasy, which is now marketed by Skyshark RC. It has a certain amount of power with the TT Pro and 46 FX. My logbook says that I had around 40 flights with the FX and APC 11x6. A couple of us had flown it with both engines. The first flight with the 46 NT with same 11x6 gave the Fantasy a lot more power. The first takeoff was a big surprise...and the engine was needing more break in time to smooth out the low end. It had more power from the start and got better with each tank of fuel. Well, the Fantasy elevator fluttered again and didn't survive this crash, so the 46 NT is going on a Somethin Extra that I'm in the middle of repairing now.
