Connecting fuel tank to engine?
I have recently gained solo status at my club on a NexStar. I am wanting to keep this plane in one piece so I decided to build a couple of SPAD's to further experiment and fly with. This way if a send them into the ground I am not picking up splinters. I wondering on the correct connections from the fuel tank to the engine. The diagrams that came with the fuel tank show a vent line and a feed line from the tank to the carb. Does the vent line connect to the muffler or do I need to install a third line? The NexStar appears to have three lines from the tank. One to the muffler, one to the carb, and then a fill line. I can not see if there is a vent line as well.
If I am correct in the muffler connection I assume that I will fill utilizing the carb line and wait until it comes out of the muffler (pressure?) line. Also, is it typical to install a fuel filter between the tank and the carb, or is it one of those "a good idea but not required" items? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Rob |
RE: Connecting fuel tank to engine?
You are correct on both your assumptions.

RE: Connecting fuel tank to engine?
If you have a third line for filling the tank you will need to make sure that it is closed off after filling. The line to the muffler is intended to pressurise the tank, it will not do so unless the fill line is closed.
