How long does Nitro last?

How long will Nitro fuel last? I bought some last year and used about 1/4 of it and then forgot about it in my basement. Is it still worth trying to use or is it going to cause problems. If I should get rid of it what is the best way to dispose of it? Thanks.

Glow fuel is hygroscopic - i.e it can absorb water (including from the atmosphere), so the way in which you store it can be pretty important.

In all liklihood though, it is still usable.

As much as the glow fuel "absorbes" water, the nitro breaks down in sunlight.

If you have kept the fuel closed tight in your basement, then I would say the fuel is in pretty good condition. Certainly, I would try it before I threw it out. I am currenly using a can of synthetic oiled glow fuel that I purchased over a year ago, and it has no ill effects. I have also had no problems with an un-opened gallon of castor glow fuel that lasted over the winter (purchased last octoberish, and actually opened in april sometime this year.

What you should do is give it to me to test for you. I'll let you know when the jug is empty how it runs. :D

From my last batch of fuel just over a month ago, My third ga.
was still good as I mt'ed it into the fourth...:-)
I would think if kept closed tight in your cool basement it most
likely is still good.. Worth a check... But I think spokman meant
for me to test it..

I've had no problems with fuel stored for a year or more that was tightly capped and kept in a cool, dry palce, like your basement I would imagine.
