Thunder Tiger GP42 Engine Problems
Hi, I am having a couple problems with my GP42 engine.
First when I pulled the fuel hose of the carb yesterday, the nipple that the hose slides onto broke off and vanished into the grass, apparently this part was only made of plastic for some reason. Second before the nipple broke I noticed the engine was spitting out a black oil from the back plate, and seemed to be running slightly doggy. I've looked around a little bit and haven't really found any parts for this engine, are they available, or am I stuck buying a new engine? Thanks for any help |
RE: Thunder Tiger GP42 Engine Problems
They are good engines mines 6 years old and still going. Yes you can get parts for them. make sure your back plate is tight if it has a leak that could explain the doggy performance as you put it.
It sounds like your new to this I can't recommend enough how much easier and quicker you'll learn to handle these engines if you skip the internet forums and get in person help from an experienced modeler. You'll pick up the basics in nothing flat. |
RE: Thunder Tiger GP42 Engine Problems
The black oil is from the backplate being loose. You'll want to fix that ASAP. The black color is from the metal that's been worn away already. If it keeps up, the backplate may not seat properly, or, if it's coming from a bolt hole, the bolt may strip out. If it just started, you probibly just have to tighten the backplate bolts a bit. If it's been going on for a while, you may need to use some RTV to make a good seal.
Either way, a loose backplate will certainly cause poor running. So will a cracked fuel nipple. If it had been cracked for any length of time before it broke off, it would air in, causing running problems as well. |
