How long before Kadet gets boring?
 

I'm new to R/C and am considering going with the Kadet LT 40 instead of the Avistar. Would the Avistar allow me to delay the purchase of a more agile airplane, since it has the semi-symmetrical airfoil or is the Kadet agile enough?

Also, is the OS .46 La powerful enough for the Kadet LT 40?

I like the Sig LT-40 Kadet the best. If you build the plane without the dihedral it will give you many hours of enjoyment. Never sell your trainer. Keep it so you can relax and just fly around after a crash of the number two plane. I didnt even though my instructor told gave this same advice. I have always been sorry. Good luck on your choice!

Keep your trainer.
I have big gassers and high speed planes and always enjoy going back to my Kadet SR. In fact that is all I flew last night. Nice calm cool evening, sat down on the picnic table and had a relaxing evening taking off and doing touch abd goes all night long. It has ailerons and an old Fox 40 on it.
To change some things on your plane you might want a 46 ball bearing engine so you can learn and do more aerobatics with it. The LA 40 is weak in my opinion, a 46 would bring the plane to life.

Still have my Kadet LT 40 three years later. I enjoy flying it with ski's in the winter and just to relax. It does need an engine like a 46 FX to make it fun. I think it is one of the best planes to learn flying. The Avistar will do more stuff but is also harder to fly as a beginner.

train a lot of people on the LT40,I like the FX46 OS engine,for now that's a lot of engine but as you progress you'll enjoy the extra power,don't need to fly wide open anyway,also build the plane as per prints,when you start changing the design you'll also change the handling of the plane,I've flown around 20 years and still enjoy flying a trainer,also fly laser,edge540,ultimate bipe,extra300,and many more planes,no mater how good or how many years you fly,there's day you just can't beat the ole trainer.

Get the Avistar, you can do some mild aerobatics after training with it. Get a good engine like the OS.46fx, it will last you for years.

Don't put a 46LA in it.. I had one in mine...our field is surrounded by trees and the LA was a not powerful enough... it made take-offs and climb outs more exciting than they needed to be! I put a 46FX in it....what a difference! Spend the extra bucks for the FX!

Well....today was my first step up from the LT 40. My second plane is a 4 * 60 sporting a FS 91 S. MAN! what a difference. I simply love it as a step up in flight. Ill definitly hang on to the Kadet.
Id recommend the LT 40 as well.....mine has a Magnum .46 XLS, and for the price, you cant beat it. Nice and big....easy to fly.
