Super Glue
 

What's the difference between superglue and "ca" glue? I looked at some superglue ingredients today, and it says contains cyanoacrylate. They had thick "gel" superglue, as well as the regular thin stuff. Has anyone else out there used super glue in leu of CA. The problem I have with CA is it's a minimum of 60 mile round trip for me to pick some up (unless I want to pay shipping on a bottle of glue, that would equal the price of the glue in the first place). And, I'm a football coach, so my schedule doesn't allow me to make it to a hobby shop before they close. Will superglue work?

Super Glue is CA. Around these parts I only see Super Glue in small tubes. It might be cheaper to pay the shipping.

They are the same thing.

For building models you will be using thin and medium CA for 99% of all your building. You will rarely be using the thick or gel CA.

The advantage to getting the CA from the LHS, is that 2 oz costs $9 - $11 vs $2 for less than 1/2 oz at the hardware store/Wal-mart.

If you keep the unused portion sealed and in a cool, dry location it will last for quite awhile.

Some people say to put CA in the fridge, a word of caution- if you do, remove it from the fridge and let it come up to room temp. BEFORE you open it! Otherwise it gets condensation inside and BOOM the whole bottle will last a New York minute.....

I do use CA myself, Buuutt. I normally use good ole' carpenter's glue for most of my general construction. I also use 30 and 5 minuit epoxie. The Titebond (aliphatic resin) works just fine for me and a lot of builder's. There is no fumes to deal with as with CA. It also cleans up with water not acetone. It sands reasonably well as apposed to CA. In your case I would definately reccomend trying some aliphatic in your construction. When you do get to a hobby shop or make a mail order just pick up some CA then. As suggested above put it in the freezer. It will keep almost indefinately. I would suggest Zap products. They seem to have the longest shelf life. They also work the best that I have seen. I also like Bob Smith products. I hope I have helped.

PS: You can get resin glues at any ---mart or at the local Lowe's ect.

2Slow...I buy my CA from this [email protected]. 13.50 for 3 2 ounce bottles and 4.35 shipping. He will sell it in any combination of thin, medium or thick. Dave

It is okay to store UNOPENED CA in the fridge; if you do though, follow the above advice to let it come up to room temp before opening it and don't store opened bottles in the fridge.
