What do you use..

to clean up exhaust residue after flight? I have been using a shop towel and windex but it don't really get all the goo off my plane. What does everyone else use?

I use Simple Green and paper towels - I find that it does a pretty good job of removing the goo. I have heard some say that paper towels will scratch up your finish, but I have never noticed any damage.

Ill second that even though i dont use simple green. simple green is great stuff. I mostly use Purple Power it works great. sometimes itll leave a little soapy film but no biggie since it cuts strait through the oil grass and any other stuff i manage to pick up along the way.

windex seems to work the best for me after trying all kinds of stuff. Although I did use paper towels and they don't seem to get all the oil off of the plane. Get a good quality cloth rag made out of cotton and try it. This seems the best way to do it for me.

Hope this helps!!!

I use the Wal Mart brand of glass and surface cleaner, I think it is 'Great Value'. It's cheap and seems to work well.

I use a couple of dry towels, followed by a couple of paper towels soaked with Rain-ex windshield washing fluid ( it's mostly alcohol).

I use Windex mixed 2:1 with denatured alcohol. The alcohol seems to cut the oil a bit better than Windex alone. I've also tried the "orange oil" cleaners with a mix of alcohol. Both work pretty well, don't hurt the finish, and I have several different kinds---MonoCote, Koverall/dope, acrylic and polyurethane, and 21st Century fabric painted with Top Flite paint, doesn't hurt any of it, does a good job getting the oil off.

Paper towels are the key, the good ol' red shop rags are nearly worthless for cleaning a plane. Not to mention if they are supplied by your work place, and laundred by a the co. that suppies them, they can have very fine metal chips in the fabric. I learned that one in "painting school".

Don't get it too clean, or you'll never be able to "grease" a landing.....

I use a 4-stroke and don't bother cleaning them.

Minn: Why? Because it causes no goo, or the muffler deflects most if not all of it from the plane? I have many friends at the field who fly 4 stroke and still clean the oil off of their planes?

When Minn gets one of his planes dirty he just gets a new one.....

well..after todays "attempted" flying I tried some windex mixed with alcohol and paper towels. It did work a lot better, i'm going to mix it a little stronger (i ran out of alcohol, only had a little bit) and try it again.

IT was, well, uh, WINDY..flying field is 6-7 miles from my house. Wind was blowing about 5 mph when i left home, got to the field, got unloaded, got everything checked and ready....clouds move in, wind starts gusting, blows my poor lil PT40 over as i started to taxi out to the strip[:o] Packed back up and went home....

Rubbing alcohol. So cheap it's almost free. Put in a spray bottle. Szzit, szzit - wipe with a paper towel. Clean as a whistle. Can't be beat.
