Tower Pro receiver compatible with anyone?

I picked up a receiver made by "Tower Pro"

The ad said "FM 72Mhz 6 Channel Micro Receiver Futaba JR GWS Sanwa "
so I thought I was golden. Now I'm realizing that all the supported brands
meant brand of servo, not brand of transmitter.

Does anyone know if this receiver is compatible with the Futaba camp of radio?
If it is (and I assume it's single-conversion) does anyone know how I should go
about finding a crystal for it? I haven't had much luck getting info from the
seller. I think there's a significant language barrier.

I have a feeling I'm going to be in the "poorer but wiser" category on this one.

The receiver SHOULD be compatible with Futaba, but the label is confusing. Futaba and Hitec use "negative" shift, JR and (I believe) Sanwa are positive shift.

Call Tower Hobbies, they should be able to help, and provide the right crystal.

I called Tower Hobbies, and they said that they aren't connected with Tower Pro.

I've (hopefully!) attached a picture of the unit, in case it helps.

And, just in case, here are the specs from the seller. I'm guessing from the range that this is a single conversion receiver. Or is that a wrong assumption to make?

Specifications :
Power Requirements : 4.8 to 6.0 volts
Current Drain : 5 mA
Range : 1350 ft; 400 m
Weight : 0.28 oz (8g)

Will accept popular servos from : Futaba, JR, Hitec, KO, Sanwa, Airtronics, GWS, etc

I bought one of these Tower Pro R116FM receivers recently. I cannot spot a crytal, or a socket for one, so I don't know the frequency. Did you ever find information on this receiver?

Receiver are one item I'm very particular about. If I don't run a receiver made by the manufacturer, I fly Bergs. Never had an issue with a Berg. I've heard quite a few stories about the cheap Chinese knock-off receivers to the point I don't think I'd want to try one. I just received an order today from Tower which included (2) Berg Micro-Stamp 4L receivers @ $24.99 each, and crystals @ $6.79 each.

I maybe wrong. But I think you remove what appears to be the plastic yellow cover on the front and place crystal in it.

You're looking for two adjacent pin holes. They may be on the back side of the circuit board.

This is why many of us recommed that you buy the best name-brand equipment you can afford. If you have spent the money on a decent airframe, engine/motor, servos and TX, why buy a cheap RX and risk it all for a few dollars?

Don't get me wrong, there are many quality products out there for less than you might pay for say JR, HiTec, Futaba or Airtronics....but until you are more certain about what is good, stick with the brands that are industry leaders.

Just my take. Good Luck!!

My latest is the Berg 7P Horizontal pin RX. Just hooked it up and no glitches so far. As was just said above I was going to use a cheap Rx in my latest build and changed my mind after i tallied up around $400+ dollars in my plane not including airframe.

2-35mm motors
2-10" props
4-servos
2 Y-harnesses
3-extensions
3-ferrite rings
Carbon Landing Gear
2-Castle Creation 45 amp esc's those took a bite out of the wallet.
4-2000mah 3S lipo's made into 2-3S 4000mah packs.
1 Berg 7PH Rx.
Airframe $100.00
Misc. hardware.
Blah Blah Blah, you get were I am going with this.
I save my cheap Rec.'s for foamies. And am happy with them in this application.
