Tip for beginners to get girlfriend approval on RC-hobby

Thought to share a little tip to on how to get your girlfriend/wife approve your newly started hobby and understand the importance of all the necessery peripherials and gadgets you JUST NEED TO GET!! (This is the beginners forum, right?)

Now when Halloween's coming, many people go to masquerade parties.
Me and my girlfriend is going to a big party and we're working on our home-made costumes at the moment.

My girlfriend has just discovered my flightbox, my tools and hobby-gizmo-gadgets and are now suddenly very happy they exist.
I have practically everything for making costumes; Scissors, pliers, CA, epoxy, glue gun, paper glue, wooden glue, balsa sheets, balsa sticks, hardwood dowels, paint, rubberbands, needles, wooden screws....you name it!

From now on I definately won't get any complaints for dragging home more tools and boys-toys since she's seen how handy it can be to have around the house!

Btw: Her suit is a bunny coming out of a hat, and mine....I'm gonna be a Raptor 50.

I wish it was like that for me. when i told my wife i wanted to get into the hobby she said ok but in order to do it i had to quit drinking alcohol. To cut a long story short i did quit drinking and have never looked back since

My wife told me it was either her or the airplanes.

I do miss her sometimes, though.

My girlfriend started to question the number of airplanes I have, so I traded her for a new motorcycle. Man, I got the best part of that deal!! The 1800 VTX never *****es when I go flying instead of takin her out.

So far I've found out that purchases less than $100 tend to go "under the radar". Of course, it's getting hard to explain the growing number of planes and engines[:o]

"Honey, before I met you I had one airplane and lots of women. Now I have one woman and lots of airplanes. Which is it gonna be?"

Ok, quick Halloween joke:

A guy comes to the door at a costume party naked with a girl on his back.
The hostess says, "What are you supposed to be?"
The guy says, "I'm a turtle"
The hostess says, "What's with the girl?"
And the guy says, "That's Michelle"

:D

Rule 1: Don't tell her how much you spend.
Rule 2: Don't let her see your entire collection.
Rule 3: If she complains about your planes, divert the attention by asking about her shoe/purse/clothes collection.

Just tell them the same thing you'd tell them in the back seat at the drive-in---"all the other girls let THEIR boyfriends"

Yeah, I know, it didn't work for me, either.

"What's a drive- in", you ask?

No, that's a drive thru.

I hide airplanes in friends garages --- then I make a single noticeable purchase after discussion with the Dragon -- she thinks that she is "on top of this stuff" & gives her approval. The fleet just gets bigger & bigger.

Get rid of the girl friend take the $ you would spend on her and go by yourself more airplanes.

Ad in a personal column:

"In search of outdoorsy type, very low maintenance female for weekend excursions that can assemble/build planes, fuel planes, clean planes and likes dirty jokes. One whose idea of "going out to eat" is a can of beanie weenies w/crackers and a Coke on the tailgate of my truck. Owning a plane is a definite plus. Owning several planes is an instant winner."

Please send photo.....of plane(s).

I had a friend that would take all the parts out of the box (ARF) and put it in black plastic trash bags. When he got home, he would proclaim his loss to his wife. She would console him without even looking into the bag!!!

He has 8 gliders, 5 helis, 6 cars and 2 nitro planes and he lives in an apartment that is smaller than many of our living rooms with his wife and kid. I've never been over to his place but I'm sure it's not easy to get around in it!!!

Im in the process of putting together a 2m pattern plane, my first and have justified it by selling off an older plane or two and some old PC bits I had lying around. Now she thinks thats where all the money for the new one is coming from. We all know one or two old planes dont equal a 2m pattern plane with all the trimmings but she doesnt.
She tried to get me into a Money spent on planes = Gifts for wife deal, so I reminded her of her custom jewellery I had made for her before we were married and her custom made wedding ring, before I got into RC so Ive got some lee way but running out of credit fast. I had to order a new ring last week to keep her happy, what she didnt see was me go back into the jewellers afterwards and tel them to stall it for about 6 months :)

My wife is a horse nut, so she kind of understands wanting, spending and getting, never really says too much about my airplanes. She figures that $550 for new saddle = $700 for airplane kit, radio gear and engine, 6mo. of farrier fees (hoof trimming and shoeing x 2 horses) =new battery charger/cycler, case of fuel, and electric starter, horse trailer= as many planes, radio gear and engines as I can build in next three years, etc , etc, plus it keeps me off the streets and out of the bars at night. Oh, and shovelling horsesh*t every now and then is good for unlimited trips to the flying field. I struck gold when I found my wife.

I've got a tee shirt showing a cartoon horse standing in front of a pile of hay eating, with money coming out of its a**; I'm ever hopeful that we can train our horses in this way, if so I'll buy her a couple more.

When in doubt remember.

It is easier to get forgiveness than to get permission.

Just think of how many planes you could have if you weren't paying for all those vacations. :D

None of this- (Thats right NONE of this) Would be a problem if girls would just fly rc planes!!!!

I hate when someone a (girl) etc.. asks me what I do for a hobby- and then gives me a puzzled look after I answer. How do we get girls involved? Do we make events and contest to guy oriented? On the other hand could you all imagine what would happen if we tried to impress girls at the field as well... CHAOS I tell you!!!

My problem explaining this hobby to family or friends, both guys and girls is that they think of it as toys.
Even if I explain the complexity, prices, danger etc... it's still a "toy-plane" and I get that *For god sake, you're almost thirty years old, grow up* look :)

Ouch, that sounds like your birthday is right around christmas[:o]

You might only get half the planes and engines you otherwise would get....

Well actually it's in the middle of January and now I'm too old to get many presents anyhow.
Bought myself a trip to Thailand for me and the girlfriend anyway...Gonna celebrate my big 3-0 on a tropical beach, drinking lots of beer and just relax for two weeks.
...And man, I tell you it's nice to get out of Finland for a while during the cold, dark winter!
Us Scandinavians need to go away to defrost mid-winter to make it to the summer.
