Engine test stand
Hi
I want to build my own engine test stand. I want it to be universal. Can anyone provide pictures or plans? Thanks |
RE: Engine test stand
The most universal one I've seen is the PSP. It's also most expensive. There are photos on their web site. It is machined aluminum. I'd love to have it but will not spend the money. I know a machinist and showed him the site. Even 'for a friend' he said he couldn't build it for me for the price they charge.

RE: Engine test stand
I built one: Went to home Depot, to the scrap wood bin. Took 1 pine 1.5*3" wood beam and some scrap plywood sheet. A couple of wood screws from my large one dollar store screw assortment, wood glue and a music wire (for throttle control). Took me half hour to build it. The tank (of any size) is attached by leftover Velcro. The engine mount (any size) is screwed to one of the parts of the pine beam. Two long horizontal parts of the pine beam are used as a base. 4 3/8" through-holes in them are used for pinning the thing down into the ground with tent hooks (optional).
If interested, I can post a picture. (Just how do I attach an image here - haven't figured out yet...) Made mine for a 40 size. Can do the same for much larger size. So what you need: 1. scrap wood (see above) 2. dollar store wood screws 3. wood glue (optional) 4. wire 5. Engine mount (that you would anyway use for the specific engine) 6. tent hooks (optional) Equipment: Jig saw hand drill with a Philips driver bit and 3/8" drill bit Cost: 2 dollars Time: 1hr (going to the stores)+ 1/2 hour(actual building) |
RE: Engine test stand
Rubberduck and I built one last night. You need:
1 - 2X6 (3ft long) 1 - 2X4 (3inches long) Screw the 2x4 on top of the 2X6. Drill a large head in the middle of the two for tubes and wires, etc. Mount the engine mount to the front, strap the tank to the board, clamp the board to a couple saw horses, and away you go.... Viper |
RE: Engine test stand
What Viper means by "Drill a large head in the middle" is drill a large HOLE in between the 2x6 and 2x4 in order to run your fuel lines through.
He must still be feeling the effects of the fumes last night.... [sm=spinnyeyes.gif] :D ORIGINAL: TGViper- Rubberduck and I built one last night. RE: Engine test stand
Rubberduck is correct. I hate to say it. That's what happens when you try to post stuff while listening on the phone in a meeting :D
